I've just noticed that there is hot water leaking from a pipe behind my oil storage tank in the garden. The heating system seems to be working fine in the house and the burner was serviced in Sept last year. The whole system was installed in 2003/2004.
Serious enough to turn off all heating? :(

Where is the boiler in relation to the tank ?? and where is the leak in relation to the oil supply pipe on the tank ??

Where is the boiler in relation to the tank ?? and where is the leak in relation to the oil supply pipe on the tank ??
The boiler (firebird) is at the back wall of a utility and the oil tank is up against this wall on the outside. The pipe is outside about 18 inches above the ground and between the tank and the utility wall.

A little more info gleaned from the other half:
The pipe that is leaking appears to be an overflow pipe or a pipe that is connected to a pressure release safety valve. It has nothing to do with the oil tank.
As far as he can make out the pipe is part of the heating system but is not directly connected to the boiler.

Sounds like the safety valve is releasing water either due to water pressure being too high or pressure vessel busted. Plumber needed!:(

It it you're pressure relief valve that's blowing out water? Thats not good news if it is.

Jedstaff is right , I'd say it's you expansion vessel that is burst , contact a plumber , it's not a major job .

Sounds like air/pressure release valve alright... Our one has been leaking a while now but it's only a trickle of water when the boiler is running. Boiler service guy said they commonly leak over time but that there was no need to replace it. That said, I think it would be best to replace as any water loss in the system is being replaced with water with no added corrosion inhibitor.

If the PRV is passing it needs to be replaced, then make sure that the cause is rectified.
