    hello lads
I was on the phone to a lad today in mayo who
Has some springer pups for sale. The breeding
Looks good i think. He seems like a sound man.
I dont know how to put up the link, but its
Donedeal dogs. I would just like some advice.
I have bought training dvds. Can anyone help
    Me with the link.
    Thanks
Ps. The add only went up today & mayo is
    Location

what are you going to be shooting? pups look good but wats the pricing on them, i wouldn't worry all about the pedigree lines, i would want to see both parents working before i put alot of money down.

Also are you set on a pup? as in the next couple of months you will see started/half/fully trained dogs anywhere from 400-1500 on donedeal as people tend to sell them off whilst not hunting

He is asking 300 euro for a bitch. I would just like to have some breeding in a
pup in case she turned out to be gun shy, at least with some pedigree she
would still be worth something. Both parents are working dogs. I am set up for
a pup & i would like to be able to say " I trained her from scratch"

Definatley go for a pup it will give you great satisfaction when you train it yourself. There is good breeding in those pups as can be seen in their pedigree but I would still ask to see the mother or father. 300e is a fair price considering the pups are registered. Now is also an ideal time to buy a pup as with the long evenings and summer ahead you will have plenty of time for training. You will have a great dog for the 2012-13 shooting season.
Also if a dog is gunshy it does not matter what breeding is in it, it is still basically worthless as a working dog. I would not advise breeding from a gunshy bitch as although unlikely it is possible she could pass on her nervous traits to her offspring. Anyway I would think it unlikely that you would encounter problems with those pups as they are from good stock and usually would not carry unwanted traits such as hardmouth and gun shy. As long as you introduce the pup to the gun correctly you will not have a problem. This is a long way down the road eitherway so you do not have to worry about it now.

Nothing wrong with alot of dogs on donedeal, just try and do a bit of homework on what your buying and a good chat with the seller face to face can often be the best way to go, those dogs seem to be from a good line. Ive seen alot of crap on donedeal and have heard some horror stories but there are alot of genuine dogs on it! As for gun shy most dog trainers believe dogs become gun shy due to bad handling which I'd agree with, make as much loud noise when your feeding your pup, this is said to make a link in the dogs mind between loud noises and something nice!

I went to see those pups today 1 dog & 2 bitches left. The owner/breeder was
kind enough to meet me at the main road and we followed him up to his house
Lovely set up he has for dogs & great way with them. I asked if i could see the
mother working, he said no problem, up the field we went, half way up he tossed
his fag box, the dog looked at him and waited for command & then off she went.
    Perfect retrieve.

He said do you want to see her in cover? Before i got a chance to ask.
He led me to a narrow boreen that was completely closed in with briars
I wish i had taken video of where that dog went for him. Well well impressed.

So back to see the pups. This was my choice.
Thanks again for all the help lads

I am offering our Springer Spaniel to a good home for free - including kennel, house bed, stainless feeding bowls, etc.

This fella is nearly 8 months old and came from working parents. We never intended to hunt him but he loves to run through cover.

I am sure with the right training he would make a good one. He is already returning when called and will fetch but is not yet returning 100% of time.

    Pics attached for anybody interested.

Free to a good home as I said.

Unfortunately our circumstances have changed for the worse (sign of the times)

It took us a few weeks to convince the kids but this weekend they eventually said yes.

Had him out this evening and he was in and out of everything, nose stuck to the ground. Unconvinced myself at this stage.

Got home and wife asked me to put up the pics. I know it is for the best but still would love to keep him. But we cannot keep him and I want to make sure he goes to the right place where he will be appreciated as a Springer. If anybody here knows of anybody please keep me in mind.

Before he goes I intend to let him s**t outside our ex Fianna Fail TD's house though :o
