I've been looking through the CRO website but I can't seem to find out if it's possible to see if a name has already been registered. The only other thing I can thing of is Googling the name to see if there are any results. :(

    Hi

You can check to see if a name is free if you register for CORE and reserve your company name. Also most company formation agents have a free name check facility. You should also be aware that the fact that the name is free does not necessarily mean it will be approved.

    Kind Regards
