There is a small area of forestry that I and a few others have recently came across around. Now this area is roughly 2 miles from any other forestry area where deer are known to be! just wonderinbg is it unusual for deer to turn up in an area like this where they would have to travel over two miles from where they were?

Also, what are the chances of them staying there? the area isnt huge but is quiet large and there is alot of cover around there. Would it be likely that they will stay there as they have been there a few months now? there seems to be around 6 deer in there?

My deer move between 4 pieces of forestry 5km apart or so.
Deer will travel miles, especially in the rut and when in young to have quiet grazing areas

Anyway, Just going to nip out to see if I can meet that herd I met yesterday again!
    Wish me luck :D

its not unusual for stags to travel 20+ km especially during the rut hinds usually keep to a smaller area but this will depend on a number of factors such as food ,disturbance.poaching,seasons,weather,shelter.

not unusual for them to travel more than 2 miles in a night. they will move from place to place. depending on food and weather they are being hunted alot. you will see them in different areas at different times of the year

Thanks lads kinda new myself they would be able to travel two miles easily! How else would they get there in the first place! :D

We havnt hunted them atal...decided to leave them and hope they stay! Some nice fields around them and unlikely to be disturbed as it's well away from any road!

Would I be right in saying they should stay there if left alone or is it just wishful thinking??

i should think so an area i shoot would be around the same size lots of growing forest with good growing grass in between i just shot the stag after the rut . the does are still there once not disturbed to much, more may move in..................:)

if you'v spotted them then you can be damn sure someone else has spotted them too, it wont be long before the word is out and you have guys in shooting them.
if i were you id take my shot at them before someone esle does next season.

That's exactly the atatude that we need to get rid of.
The hole I better shoot it before someone else does.
We should all as shooters take a responsible attitude toward stalking and shoot with conserving the sport and the animals we hunt instead of shoot them all before someone else does.

this whole wipe em out first before someone else does is crazy .. when deer are spotted in a ne area they should be left alone for a few years to set in it is both in the interest of stalkers and deer that they can spread as it when they become overpopulated in one area thats when they become a problem

No there not spotted I'm sure of that.. however if they were to travel a bit they would be visible from the road!

I have plenty of other land to shoot deer on... so I dont mind leaving them be

probably will, but no need to aid the poachers in depleting the numbers.
better to monitor them, and the poachers if you can. that said with a bit of luck they wont find out
