Switching colleges in second year

I was wondering what the deal is with switching science courses. I'm in the second year of my science course at the moment and want to switch to somewhere for a better work placement. Assuming I find a course similar to mine and switch, will I have to start again? Can I move straight into third year? Or would I have to start in second year?
Also, who exactly do I speak to about switching? Do I just go to my year head, the cao, or straight to the other college?
Any help would be great, thanks in advance!
