PR Jobs in the UK

Hi, I have just over two years experience in PR, have a BTEC in Journalism and I am finishing my diploma in PR and Event Management in May. I have been looking for work in PR since the end of July and although I am getting interviews the competition is massive. For instance, a role that I just did the final interview for had 95 applicants so its really quite difficult to find something.

Anyway I am keeping my options open here but I have been looking at roles on Linkedin in the UK and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with applying for work there. I was thinking I could just go over for a couple of weeks when I finish my exams and go around the agencies to see if there is any interest.

I worked with a big British bank so I think that could work in favour but only a little bit.

Has anyone got any experience with this?

I had posted this in the PR forum but no replies so though I would try here.

    Hi,

You would definately need to get over. Do you have family or friends you could stay with?

Brand republic is one of the big PR job websites, but you can also look on Monster, total jobs, jobsite etc. There are a lot of very skilled people that apply for these jobs. Your best bet is to get over there and even start temping if need be just to get some money coming in. I would also suggest getting on some of the Chartered Institute of Marketing courses if you do go over as they are the worth there weight in gold on a CV

    Hi there

I may be a bit late with this reply, but in case you’re still looking then hopefully this might be of some help. I’ve spent 10 years working in the PR industry in London. In my experience, there are more opportunities with PR agencies than in-house roles.

I’d start by going to the major PR recruitment agencies to find out what roles are out there. I’d suggest you look at:

    JFL
    Profiles Creative
    The Works
    The Foundry
    Median
    Major Players

I’d also do a lot of research on http://www.prweekjobs.co.uk/ which is the jobs section of the UK PR industry’s main trade mag, PR Week.

I’m not convinced a CIM qualification makes a big difference if you already have 2 years experience.

You may be able to help me in return?! … I am making the move from London to Dublin and need to work out 1) If there are any major PR specialism recruitment agencies and 2) which are the biggest Dublin agencies I should be looking to work for. My previous PR work has been Consumer, FMCG, Corporate and Tech.

Good luck & hope to hear back from you

I would think long and hard about returning to a career in PR here. Long and hard. The fact that the OP tried in the PR forum and got no answers should tell you all you need to know about PR in Ireland.

Your best bet for jobs is the PRII website. There are always a good few roles advertised there, all require years of experience so newbies or career changers need not apply.
