    Hi Guys,

I just want to know what your predictions are for the masters this year?

I like the look of Bubba Watson when he is on form, Nick Watney and probably GMac will have a great chance because it is a cutters course.

    A faders course.....supposedly!

I also agree that putting is vital here.

Confused. Augusta has always beeen known as a drawers course. But if Bubba Watson is a 'cutter', that should work to his advantage, as he's left-handed!

McDowell like to draw the ball, so if it a drawers course he should be well
equipped to do well if his putting is on song.

I disagree that Augusta National is a a ''cutters'' course. For a left handed player it is, that would be Mike Weir, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson this year. For the majority of the field it has more tee shots that favour a draw over any other shot with the exception of the 1st, 18th and the 11th.

As for a winner? I have a few quid on Dustin Johnson.

Sorry I got my wires crossed.........Its a faders course for Phil and Bubba, Phil was practicing his power fades in Riviera last week.

I think Bubba "Cuts" and "Fades" so if he brings his A game, he will be the man to beat because he is long and very good around the greens.

    Any other contenders?

    Matt Kuchar. 50/1

Solid putter. Consistent top 10 finisher. Probably not long enough.

    Dustin Johnson. 28/1

Big hitter which is mandatory if you want to get at the pins. Fairly good putter. Only let down is he tends to have a blow out in each round.

I agree. In past years, you'd have questioned whether or not McDowell is long enough to win around Augusta but then you have Zach Johnson and Mike Weir, both of whom have won fairly recent Masters.
The majority of holes that you have to shape the ball significantly off the tee require a right to left shot, or a draw for right handers (eg holes 2, 8, 10, 13, 14...)
The only hole off-hand that I can think of that requires a fade is 18.
Best putter wins the Masters more often than not. Seriously think Harrington will have a good run at it one of these years, who knows?

McIlroy, Donald or Mickelson my favourites. And Freddie Couples for old times sake! Lost out on a pay-off by 1 place last year, guranteed top 6 this year :)

Suprised Kaymers name hasnt been mentioned yet. Wouldnt be great value with the bookies but he's a very solid putter as well as having all the other attributes required to win.

Kaymer is a natural fader of the ball. Would definitely work against him.

I fancy McIlory myself, a long hitter who likes to draw the ball. Could be right up there if his putting is top notch.

Lads, Sky Sports have the Masters for the first time this year. Should we be worried?? Are they sending their own cameras to at least pick up some of the shots from the players their viewers are interested in seeing?? Or are we gonna see Tiger drive it into the trees, swear, spit, scratch his a*se, walk down the fiarway, stop, spit, ask his yardage etc for four (or maybe only two :D ) days??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭sector

I'm thinking of getting a 3d TV just for this, reckon Sky will do a great job on it.

edit: Backed Jim Furyk, he's gotta bounce back soon me thinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

I hope that Sky have their own cameras and hopefully there wont be an add break every 5 minutes.
Dont the bbc still have coverage of it for Saturday & Sunday?

Kaymer is my tip, backed him a fortnight ago at 40/1

Sky have exclusive coverage Thursday and Friday on BBC and Sky at the weekend. BBC always used their own cameras to pick up the Europeans presume Sky will be the same. As far as I know were still only going to see the 3 hours of coverage on Thurs and Friday but thought I ready there were extending the weekend coverage by an hour each day

I like Kaymer but I feel he putts too firm for Augusta, especially with the pace of the greens, if his reads are slightly off he will be 5/6 feet past the hole.

Surely we can't write Lee Westwood off?

If the BBC ever lose coverage of the Masters then a small part of my soul would die.

It all started with Steve Ryder leaving the Beeb. Always loved the Wednesday evening preview show.

Nothing confirms it's golf season again like Peter Alliss and 'Ken on the Course' :D Ken Brown chipping, pitching and horticultural segments. "Ken's been at the wacky tabacky again!"

Sky may have the fancy gadgets but you can't just buy the tradition of it. They will however also have the Par 3 contest live.

Saying that, I'm sure todays 9 or 10 year olds will say at my age. "It's not the same without Murray and 3D tv!!"

Lee Westwood, or Ernie Els. For a home winner I'd pick Dustin Johnson.

    Rory.

affirmation of my doubt rorys temperament has been reinforced in the last couple of months.

when the head drops he seems incapable of lifting himself. and his putting, for me, has not improved.

IMO, his putting technique lacks patience and eek!.... maturity!

now i could be talking out of my arse but he's starting to look like one of those confidence players. which would be a shame.

Wouldn't fancy Kaymer, he struggles to hit a draw.

I like the mention above of Bubba Watson, he can move the ball left and right on demand and is also long enough.

Sergio to realise putting is not that hard and finally win a major ?
    50 /1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Until McIlroy changes his caddie i dont think he will win any tournament when he
is put under some bit of pressure. He needs somebody on the bag that is not afraid
to take control of a situation when he sees fit.

I fancy Westwood again to be up near the top, would love it if he could finally grab
    that elusive major.

I think thats what makes it, besides what player would want to win it?
    It is cursed you know...

Harrington himself won back to back in 2003(tie with david toms) 2004 but if you offered it to him now I'd say he would snap your hand off!!!

Don't watch it then. It was, afterall, an event that was never meant to be shown on TV. It's intended as a bit of pre-tournament fun for the fans and the players.

The fact that we see it is a bit of a bonus for anyone looking to have their appetite whetted on the eve of the competition proper. The players, fans and families seem to love it too.

But hey, maybe they should turn it into a fully fledged tournamant and get the US networks to critique their swings just to try and keep the never-satisfied happy.

What a ridiculous thing to whinge about.

Its sad because its true, just shows how far his game has fallen.
But i suppose you could never write him off.

somebody pointed it out as a bonus with skys coverage, that was all. I think its a cheesefest, can I not have an opinion? Some people might expect it to be something else......
