Hi, I'm new at this so bare with me!!

I'll keep it short and sweet.. Hubby was signing for us (wife and 2 kids) and some work came in, 2 days one week, 1 day next week and so on..He kept doin both(we know how wrong it is!) Anyways, when the job went fulltime, he remained signing and working for about 4 weeks and then signed off..
all was goin fine until the work ran out again!!
Now the thing is that he is out of work but if he goes in to sign on again will we get 'done' for 2010 workin/signing? Yes we prob deserve it bla bla but has anyone else been in a similar situation??

If they are aware that he was working while claiming the dole he may get prosecuted, wether he signs on again or not.

They might not be aware of it until he goes back in and re-opens his claim.. Have def learned a lesson from all this!!
How much do you have to owe before it becomes more than a slap on the wrists?
I know a guy who got caught recently and they're NOT prosicuting, just sending him a letter with notification of how much he'll have to repay..

They are not prosecuting yet. That may change if he does not repay the money. There are no real answers to your questions. Noone here can tell you how much you can defraud the state for before it is taken seriously, nor would they if they knew. Noone can tell you if signing on will bring you up on their radar again either.

    This is true!

We're usually fairly honest people and I don't agree with screwin the system, I suppose this is what happens, it will ALWAYS come back to bite you in the ass!! It's such a balls though as we're the only family on a block of 6 to come clean and sign off, the rest of the 5 houses(all familys of four or more) are "single mothers" NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he / the employer paid contributions for those 4 weeks, Revenue will send a Certificate of Employment to Social Protection who will then make enquiries as to why he was paying a contribution whilst on full Social Welfare payments. Best thing to do is fess up and may arrangements to repay money. Usually proscecutions are only taken when money exceeds €4,000 but can be taken for less. Get ahead of the game by offering repayments.

Yeah PlazaMan, we were thinkin along those lines too.. I hate having this hanging over us. We really do have enough debt right now and adding more on would be a right balls!
He signed off last Aug, surely if they had something on him then we would have been contacted by now???
We're goin around in circles tryin to come up with something, but we can't live on my 15hr a week wage for much longer :(

Actually i think most p60's are processed at this time for last year so it would be around this time where it comes to light. As previous poster said. Best to come clean if it is bothering you that much. Then you would have nothing to worry about.

On the point of all your neighbours, have you reported them to social welfare?

Thanks for all the non-judging advice and info :)

As for reporting the neighbours, No we haven't nor would we..I dunno how that would make me feel if I did report them.. I don't agree with screwing the system and it's not a nice feeling whilst doing it..But let them to it, I have comfort opening my front door knowin that I have nothin to hide whilst they are paranoid off their heads about it.. Yes they're payin less rent etc but like my situation now, it'll all come full circle soon enough..

They are not paying less rent. They are stealing. If you don't want to report them don't, but don't try and use them as a benchmark for how little you are doing wrong.

A bit premature on my part with the "Non-Judgemental" advice...
