    Hey guys,

I've been asked to help out a mate buying a Netbook for work, but don't honestly have a clue where to start looking ?

He basically needs if for very basic powerpoint presentations only - he has a decent PC at home, this this would be to take to clients. He's looking as cheap as possible, but also doesn't want to buy a heap of trouble.....

    Any ideas ?

I recently picked up a Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 for €279 at Currys.
Its got the standard 1GB RAM, 1.66Ghz Intel Atom N455, and a 250GB hard disk, as well as WiFi & Bluetooth 3.0. Its working a charm so far, my main reason for choosing this one is the battery, I can get nearly 11 hours of battery life with the Wifi off, and about 5 with it on. I'd definitely recommended it to anyone looking for a Netbook

Cheers for that - as I said, I know nothing & dont want to recommend a pup ! (even if he is a Spurs supporter)

ASUS EEEPC 1005H is the model i have for working from home and its great good reviews online and have had it about 18 months and still going strong. Battery is still very good for someone who uses it everyday.

ASUS and Tosiba are the ones with good reliablity.

One of the asus or toshiba models are very good. I have a toshiba netbook and its great, it has lasted me over a year and a half now. Its working a dream couldn't fault it. You could get one in carphonewearhouse for a decent price. Currys or pc world or harvey norman be good places to go for or get online from argos or littlewoods at a good price within a reasonable budget. Avoid dell, toshiba and asus are more reliable!

I'd have to disagree with you there. I've only had my netbook a few weeks, but I've had a Dell Studio laptop for two years now, and it works fine, and a desktop model for 8 years, both still work great, and I've never had a problem.

Plus, if your installing new operating systems on it, Dells Driver & Downloads section is brilliant.
