Family member has paranoia/Xanax withdrawal?

Hi all, lately my brother has stopped taking the medication 'Xanax', which had been used to treat his anxiety. He's been having some worrying side-affects from the withdrawal and we're getting concerned that it might be more than that.

He's been more withdrawn than normal, staying in his room mostly, and has insomnia, paranoia and shakes. He keeps saying he feels like people in our family have conspiracy theories against him and he has false memories. It's really upsetting us all and I was wondering if anyone else had experience of this, or knew how long the withdrawal might last for?

Get him to see a doctor. You and your family aren't equipped to make a diagnosis let alone posters here.

Was your brother taking them regurlay? To my knowledge Xanax are a short term fix for anxiety as its only to be taken a week or two as they are very addictive and apparently coming off them can be worse then coming off heroin. Most Doctors wont give people a long term prescription of Xanax for this reason. I would get your brother to go to the doctor as soon as he can to get help.

Your brother needs to go speak to his doctor. We are not qualified to either diagnose his condition nor impart medical advice here.

    Locked.
