Sky channel faults

Hi. I have Sky+HD and for the past few months every "4" channel is very glitchy (blocks across screen and jumping sound and picture). Now it covers channels 135 to 139 inclusive, every other channel is fine. After viewing any of these faulty channels if I go back to a good channel it gives me a black screen but if I select another one it comes good then.

Anyway I wanted to reprogram these particular channels as I have used the "add channels" option and selected the correct frequency and when I have done this I have perfect picture and sound for all these channels so its obviously an issue with the channels current settings/frequency but can I change this somewhere in my setup area?

Hope this makes sense and that someone else has had similar issues and resolved them. Have tried upgrading software and all the usual tricks for faulty viewing issues but the route I have used gives me the solution but tying it all together is where I'm stuck. Thanks

I know there is an on-going issue with E4 (channel 137) in that there is a regular sound popping glitches and I and otehr have also experienced a thin green line that will flicker accross the screen.

This is a very common problem and 95% sure that it is caused by wireless interference. If you have a DECT phone in the vicinity this is the likely cause of the problem. If you do disconnect the phone from the mains and see if the CH4s all have a perfect picture.

Top man greendom, that was exactly the issue. Now where am I going to get a new phone?

    Cheers ;)

ANY make of DECT phone does it.

    Only solutions are:
Move Sat receiver and cables well away from DECT base & phones.
Better Coax cable (sometimes doesn't work)
Move DECT base/phones etc well away from Sky box AND the coax cables.
Don't use DECT, use a phone with a cord.

The E4 problem is an ongoing one, even without DECT interference it occurs.Sky and CH4 are aware of the problem but nothing is being done about it.

Same isseu affects lots more channels though and particulalry Irish ones

    9 engineer visits
    3 dishes
    5 LNBs
    2 sets new cables
2 new boxes and still happening

Have HD / SKY+ and SKY boxes (too many kids and wives!!!)

    Affects all boxes

Have DECT phones, unplugged no difference
Plugged out every electrical device in house in sequence and none made a difference

Am losing mind trying to sort this out

    Any suggestions

Do you live in a detached or a semi/terrace?
Are any close neighbours experiencing problems?
If not dish alignment , lnb, cables or receivers , there must be an external cause of interference.
Get a reputable independent satellite specialist with a spectrum analyser to take a look at the system, sky sub-ccontractors are often poorly trained and equipped to deal with anything out of the ordinary.

BTW , the real engineers , those with degrees and other qualifications , don't like the term used by/about those who are clearly not.
Fitter/ installer/ Skyman etc. are preferred terms.

Could be a neighbour's DECT phone
and/or poor quality coax letting interference in
and/or kink/crush in coax can damage certain frequencies.

I doubt you have even had a Technician visit you, never mind an Engineer.

So you have 3 boxes, 2 with Sky+ functionality, therefore 5 cables?

Are all cables directly connected from LNB to each box?

Your not trying to do something funny by spliting any of these cables internally? (multiswitch setup would be needed)

Chances you have 3 dodgy boxes - slim

Chances cables to 3 different locations are experienceing the same level of interference - slim (although as stated already, depends who/what lives beside you)

Chances you have 5 dodgy cables - slim
What cable number is stamped on each cable?

Poor dish alignment - possible (you have replaced everything more than once, but no mention of alignment)

Disconnect cables from all boxes and then test each box individually....remove as many unknowns from the equation as possible.

Octo LNB, 7 cables coming from roof, one room wired but no box there, no splits in any cable

Nope no splits but any thoughts on anything that boost signal greatly appreciated

Not sure what you mean by cable number

has been realigned a few times, in beginning it seemed to work but believe now it was temporary as whatever intereference there was locally was increasing in strength

Brought one box to friends house and worked fine

HAve taken to watching sky on internet now but am thinking of jumping ship to cablelink/NTL or whoever they are now

    Not just one box..

cable number:- would reefer to the letters/numbers printed every meter or so on the cable.
