The John Murray Show - wtf?

I tuned into RTE radio one this morning to get some information on the political situation. The only reference on the John Murray show is him trying to think of 'funny'(I use the term loosely) things Enda Kenny might have said in his voice mail to Eamon Gilmore.

Meanwhile for the last 15 minutes I have had to listen to some woman prattle on about Michelle Obama's dress sense.

Is it too much to hope to get some political analysis at 9am on a Monday morning, considering the day that is in it?

No! Wait until 10 :) Newstalk also gave it the swerve between 9 and 10 I think (heard Brendan O'Carroll)

You have 2 hours of it on Morning Ireland and another 2 hours to come on Pat Kenny. Other than Enda leaving a voice mail on Eamonns phone and 3 counts still on going there's nothing to analyse yet (that hasn't been analysed over the weekend).

The Murray show is light entertainment there was never going to be any analysis on it.

    WTF!!

Tell you something pal, once I hear Dubbalin John shouting at the mic. it's over to NT straight away.

Total rubbish, with no redeeming feature about it.

    Just CANNOT last.

I wouldn't mind mind if The John Murray show was even vaguely entertaining, but his attempts at humour are always cringe inducing.

He is a serious journalist who is not suitable for that show.

And I agree with Syklops - today of all days, they really should continue with the election coverage.

I say if you'd just left the first post at The John Murray Show-wtf, skylops, and not elaborated any further most people would have still nodded their heads in agreement. How this guy got his on own show on Radio 1 is beyond me. It's cringingly bad.

Regardless of the merits, or otherwise, of the John Murray show, as far as I am concerned we had almost wall-to-wall coverage of the election between RTÉ radio, television and website, T na G, TV 3 and local radio on Saturday and Sunday when we could do with a bit of light entertainment, and surely this should have satisfied even political devotees. There are only 3 constituencies left and to expect full radio coverage is a bit much.

RTÉ seems to think, and obviously they have their supporters, that the whole country is interested in in-depth coverage of politics. Well here is one person who is not. A passing interest, yes, and I did watch quite a bit of the Saturday coverage (and a little on Sunday) but to extend it into a 3rd day in a row - no thanks.

The worst thing RTE ever did was allow these fellows put their names on programmes they present thus giving them ownership and self importance, the OP titled show is the prime example.

Sir, you are missing the point a bit.

Yes, there needs to be a bit of a break at 0905 from raw politicking.

However, not the total shoooite and rubbish that Dubbalin John puts out.

It's pathetic in the extreme, just fcuking awful.

The spot on 2FM 9am-9.30am this morning... with Bryan Dobson reviewing the papers, and talking about the election from his point of view.... was a breath of fresh air and would have fitted neatly between Morning Ireland and The Pat Kenny Show.. And I'm sure a lot of people who were listening to Radio One would have changed over from Murray's childish antics if they'd known he was on 2FM..

Well to be honest i cannot bear john murray anymore.
He thinks hes funnier than he is,and his show is becoming as irrelevant as turbidy.
John needs to be on a serious show, simple.

I'm afraid it's a poor show, RTE should've put PK on at 9 and left Murray on Morning Ireland and The Business.

It hasn't worked, they need to face that now.

Yeah. A wasted opportunity methinks. It's not that John Murray's a dreadful broadcaster or anything but he's not suited to the sort of programme he's doing now. The less said about the attempts at humour on his show, the better.

I bought John Murray's book "Now That's What I Call Jargon" in Eason's the other day for €1. I hope he doesn't find out that they've slashed the price almost to the point where they'll pay you to take a copy. :D

    It has very good ratings.

Mainly from people not bothering to change channel for one hour though.
