Rent Allowance

    Hi,

I have been unemployed for 2 months. As I was living at my parents house I could not claim rent allowance, however they have had to sell the house due to the economic situation.

We are now moving into rented accomodation, my part of the rent is €350. This is a massive burden, would I not be able to claim rent allowance to cover some of the cost?

    Regards,

    Hayley

I doubt it. I think as you are living with your parents they will still get means tested and you will not be elligable if one of you parents has a job. Also are you getting uemployment assistance of 188 per week? if so then you should be able to pay 85 a week a rent and spend the remainder on your food etc. I work full time and I know after i pay all my bills (Mortgage childcare etc) im left with about 100 euro per week to manage on for food. Granted i rarely get to go out but such is life at the moment here.
