Hi everyone, I have a good mate of mine who I did a deal with a few weeks ago.. He gave me a pritty good deal on a nice little 1998 almera it has a year nct, new cluth fitted recently, alarmed and immobilizer, all electric and full service history the last figure we agreed on was 700 euro. Last month just as I was gonna pick the car up my mate said the car broke down and that he figured there was a problem with the gearbox (there is but not 100% sure what the problem is)

Now he said he is getting it fixed and he has offered it to me again.. Money is tight at the moment so I can't afford to buy a car that is giving trouble..

So what I wanted to ask you guys is.. Do you think I should still buy the car now? and is the 98 almera known for any particular faults like this?

    Thanks folks :D:cool:

well if he's gotten the gearbox fixed, he should have a receipt for the work, in which case i'd be happy enough.

those almeras are generally a sound buy, with low running/ servicing costs, but if he cant prove the problems been fixed i wouldn't touch it. or at the very least id get a mechanic to have a look over it if your not confident.

Buying things from good mates/friends is always risky if things don't work out. It can lead to a break up of a good friendship. :o

I'd never sell a car to anyone I knew for fear they weren't of the same mind set as myself, ie if the thing died the following day it's not my problem :pac:
