Some companies guarantee hot water 365 days a year from some type of solar panels. Can anyone confirm that this is true ? and if so explain to me how as I'm looking for such a system but know absolutely nothing about the field.

I have solar panels and record sunshine hours and solar radiation and IMO the only way that you can have hot water all year round is to not use it!

Even in summer one can have a week of cloudy weather and if one doesn't adjust ones useage of hot water to compensate, then a backup is needed. My panels are flat plate and while tubes do perform better in marginal conditions, they are not miracle tubes

    Hi Anagle
There is 1 company out there flogging a solar panel that gives hot water 24/7, but it is more of a heat pump than a solar panel.
Solar will heat your water most days but in the winter months you would be looking at a temperature of 15-30 degrees on average depending on the size of the collector.
In the summer months a proper sized system will give you hot water most days with temperatures from 45-80 degrees
These figures are based on a 40 tube system with a 300 ltr tank.
    Hope this helps
