Really comes into its own as the seasons progress.
    Still going strong now. . . .
    The pattern!!!

    Wowow!!!
Just watched the pilot there - I got season 1 on bluray as a gift - looks great !! , anyway good pilot really looks interesting, I can see the Lost creator's influence.

I think I will go ahead and order season 2 !!!

Great to have a new series to watch.

Do, you won't regret it :). Season 1 is not bad at all, but the show really hits its' stride in mid season 2 IMO, where the overall arc and mythology take center stage a lot more frequently. The 2 part season 2 finale is all kinds of awesome!

OK so watched eps 2-3 now, not as good as the pilot, but
I trust the advice given and think it will get better.
Problem is with it , it seems to be a bit outdated - for
want of a better word, I mean the style of the show (so far)
it's - big mysterious thing happens - Investigate - take
evidence back to Crazy guys lab - seems he worked on this
in the 70's ... They find some link to stop something similar
happening again - quick we need to hurry up ... car chase ...
or run chase --- apprehend someone - but they die .. too late
to find out who they were working for.....

Then some sort of twist at the end - this part I don't mind too
much - but the rest, it's like the X Files (actually this show
has a real feel of the X files to it) and that is way outdated
1990's style, TV has moved on from that now,

I trust however that the show will improve....

Yep, that's very much how season 1 plays out - the original plan was to kind of do mostly "case-of-the-week" standalone episodes with little or no connection to the major story arc(s). However, because of ratings slipping, they accelerated how much they revealed at the season 1 finale (which is pretty great) and then after a few season 2 standalone episodes, they started focusing more and more on the main storylines (like I said, mid season 2 right to the end is pretty epic). Season 3 is almost flawless so far and has reversed the pattern (:P) from season 1 with most standalone episodes somehow tying in to the larger arc. That's pretty much all I can say without spoiling anything really!

    :)

and that is why I trust it and am sticking with ! -- not that it is a bad show so far in S1 - just nothing like LOST was at that stage ....or other good "modern" TV...

I saw the first few episodes and wasn't impressed at all to be honest, thought the characters were a bit wooden and the dialogue a bit ****, the only thing I remember being good about it was the old scientist??... Was I overly harsh, is it really that good?

True, but (at least IMO), Lost started very strong and really fell apart as a ton of threads went nowhere, whereas with Fringe, as the seasons progress more and more stuff ties together and starts making sense. Heck, they even tied in something from a season 1 episode (which seemed pretty throaway at the time) to a recent season 3 episode - not a lot of shows do stuff like that.

Like I said above, you should try to stick with the show a bit more. Though there are a few gems in the 1st season and the finale is very good, it really is not until well into season 2 that everything starts to click and the show becomes so much than the "case-of-the-week" formula.

As for the acting, John Noble (the old scientist I assume you're referring to) is definitely the strongest actor in the cast easily and he just keeps getting better but the other two leads have come a long way in the subsequent 2 seasons. Anna Torv in particular has hugely improved from season 1 (or maybe it's the material she's given these days). In any case, it's one of only a few shows I can think of that goes from strength to strength (a very similar case for me would be "Supernatural" which started in very much the same way, with a "monster-of-the-week" formula but by season 3 had grown into one of the best things on TV at the moment. I hope Fringe gets to stick around as long too...)

Just watching 2x11 now, eh ...
what the hell is Charlie doing in this episode ? the shapeshifter has been killed, did i miss something ??? - edit oh wait - parallel world ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

It was shot for Season 1 but for some reason they never showed it. I think they forgot Charlie was dead when they showed it as part of Season 2, and the producers backtracked and said if you want to believe it's in the parallel world then it's your choice. Personally I regard it as part of Season 1, just out of order

Finished season 2, about to start season 3, some great episodes in there all right but way too much filler.
