council seats left vacant after ge11

    Just wondering what happens here.... a number of seats on Local Authorities left vacant now...

    Also to settle a bet, can an out going TD draw the dole

    someone is co opted to fill the seat. Unlike the Dail there is no by election and it is filled by a nominee of the person who ran originally. In European elections when you run for election you put down people to replace you if you resign/retire or get elected elsewhere. I think council co options are similar but not the same i.e. the replacement is not decided they day you are elected.

    AFAIK. No.
    They get a severance payment and a pension depending on length of service. They probably can sign on and claim some dole if they have no job or income eighteen months later.

    I don't know what they do in say UK, Germany etc. It does not make it alright

    I will be more blunt then; considering the parish pump politics in this country..........
