i am gonna take the plunge and replace the fuel filter myself on the 99 primera diesel. i used to do it before on a 99 corolla van but im a bit lost now as to where to bleed the air out. in the corolla i used to change the filter and then when all the hoses were connected again i used to open a nut and press down on the pump on top of the filter to bleed it.

i was talking to someone and he said i don't need to open anything just keep pressing on the pump when the new filter is connected and this gets rid of the air. is this right or do i need to bleed it first by opening a nut? i'm guessing i do but i'm not sure which nut to open. anyone tell me step by step what to do? i can do the air and oil so it would be class to be able to do the fuel filter too:)

Just screw it on and pump the plunger untill its solid. Then start the engine and leave it idling for 30 seconds or so before you rev/drive it.

Before you fit the new filter, half fill it with fresh clean diesel. Tightening it up along with any loosened pipework and bleed screws, and then work the primer on the filter head till the primer gets hard. Then start the car and keep it at a moderate rev for half a minute. Once it ticks over after that, you are fine.

    Edit: just saw ND'S post...!
