The true weather vane constituency?

I think Carlow/Kilkenny must be one of the best indicators when it comes to who will be in government and what party leads the opposition.

In 2007, we had 3 FF and 1 Green plus 1 FG
In 2011, we have 3 FG and 1 Labour plus 1 FF

What other constituencies have similar outcomes, where at least 80% of the TD's are in government parties?

Need to look at more than two elections for an accurate idea. Also, Kilkenny has a strong FF base, had they run different/less candidates, they could have taken 2 seats. I would put it down to chance more than anything else!

Mary White only got in last time because of a lack of Carlow candidates, and she only scraped in as well.

    ^^^ that.

I'd say if the election was run again tomorrow FF would have two seats. McGuinness is a mouth without substance (though he does a good impression of it when it suits his end) and is symptomatic of the worst of FF, keeping a family seat warm to eventually hand on to his even more smarmy son. But he is a god in these parts and will always be elected and probably always bring someone with him.

I am really heartened that Ann Phelan was elected before him though, it's some consolation.

Last election, 2 Carlow TDs, this time just 1.

MJ Nolan was elected as a FF candidate primarily, it just happened that he was from Carlow too. Mary White would not have been elected if she had a Kilkenny base.
