You don't need a licence to sell door to door. Can't link to anything since there is no legislation to cover it.

You do need a casual trading licence to sell in a market/location as determined by the local authority http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1995/en/act/pub/0019/sec0004.html

Obviously if you are selling goods you will have to register for VAT if over certain limits:
    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/registration/index.html
and also you need to register for income tax etc

Find out a lot about this before you start at it or make any big commitments. The day of door-to-door selling is probably over.

It really depends on what he is selling. There is a guy around my area(and others I'm sure) that has started selling eggs door to door and is doing well out of it.

That can work because he is building up a 'round' rather than cold calling each time. Building up referrals is a part of it too. Cold-calling is the part that is really tough.

Personally I hate door to door sales people. As a consumer I decide when I want to buy something I just find it insulting having someone call to my home trying to pawn there wares. I for one hope this form of selling dies out pretty soon. Rant over!! Sorry about that hope you Do well just don't knock on my door :-)
