Hi guys, Was checking bikes yesterday and it seems I have narrowed my decision down to four bikes. The Giant Rapid 3 2011 for €840, The Giant rapid 4 2011 for €600, The Specialized sirrus sport 2010 for €650 or the Specialized sirrus elite 2011 for €750. I would be using the bike mainly for commute but also for fitness cycles on the weekend. Can anyone advise me on which is the best value? I was originally hoping for last years rapid 3 but it is out of stock and has increased significantly in price this year. I can also avail of the bike to work scheme which means the difference in the price of the bikes would be less. Each one costing roughly half price.
    Thanks

Have you considered a road bike?

What kind of distance is your commute?

I'm moving soon so not sure of commute distance maybe 5-10 miles? I want to use it for longer fitness cycles anyway. Don't want a road bike. I just owned one and am looking for a bike with upright positioning this time.

If you are intending to use the bike for longer spins at the weekend that upright riding position will be a real problem for you. A properly sized & well set up road bike will easily be comfortable for mile after mile once you break in the saddle. There are a lot of drop bar bikes with pannier eyelets etc that can be easily removed for your Saturday spin. IMO a flat bar bike is for commuting only, for longer miles a road bike is much more efficient & comfortable.

Yeah won't be overdoing long cycles. My first sport is athletics. As I said have road bike now and want flat handlebars next. Will nearly certainly buy one of the four bikes listed above.....
