Tv presenter drink driving??

Comments

The radio host had been drinking in the swanky new Copan bar in Rathmines, Dublin, prior to the crash, which occurred at 2am that morning.

Earlier in the night, the 35-year-old had 'tweeted' a number of comments describing his alcoholic exploits, including: "Feel like I jus drank toilet duck & redbull".

He also kept his Twitter followers updated with pictures of him holding cocktails.
Using Twitter to further incriminate himself. Epic fail. :pac:
The presenter, who shot to fame as the face of How Low Can You Go?, will face Montrose bosses this week to try and state his case.

Yesterday afternoon, the state broadcaster released a statement explaining that it takes an extremely dim view of such behaviour.
Presumably if he had been partaking in a certain white powder Montrose bosses would be falling over themselves to cover it up and black-balling any journalist who mentioned it.

What an idiot. Can't believe there are dopes who still think it is Ok to drink and drive.

Imagine if he killed someone or if he was killed himself. He certainly wasn't thinking of his girlfriend and their baby girl.

In fairness if he gets convicted of drink driving then he must be sacked. It would be wrong for the national broadcaster funded by the people to employ somebody who has committed a despicable crime.

I remember defending him on boards on that fawlty hotel program when he was mad shouty.

Tool. I wouldn't even give him a "fair hearing" as RTE put it. I'd sack his ass. The man was drinking cocktails til the early hours of the morning while putting it all on Twitter, ya can barely have a pint now without being over the limit (rightly too!) so what exactly can he say to save himself?! I repeat, TOOL!

They're all at it in there... and they keep the jobs too! Sure why not, we pay them.

Saw her in a shop in Dun Laoghaire a few weeks back and an old lady recognized her and said a big Hello and smile to her... the old lady that is; the weathergirl practically blanked her.

Didnt know that Joe O'Shea was done... knew about Evelyn Cusack.. shure even Gaybo used to admit that when he was doing the LLS show he used to head home driving after a stack of pints... And he's head of the RSA...

Any pictures of Baz's car yet? Never liked the chap on radio or TV, he always seems to be shouting and acting "mad".

She does not work for RTE she works for Met Eireann.I dont think a normally employer can sack you for drink driving unless it effects your ability to do your job. But i take your point.

Smarmy ITN pratt Alastair Stewart, former host of Police Camera Action was done in the UK.

He was three times the limit when he crashed his Mercedes into a telegraph pole on the way home from a Chinese takeaway.

It was his SECOND drink-drive conviction and he was told he was only spared a jail term “because of his remorse”.

Mmm wasn't the first time either was it. Quite frankly I'm amazed she's still on air, she has the most patronising style of broadcasting if you can call it that, can barely string a sentence together, and drags down the rest of a mostly excellent weather team

What a clown, how long before the my drink drive regret story hits the tabloids.

The head of RTE Radio is well known for her no nonsense approach so hopefully she'll act quickly

She's well liked across the country - so no surprise that she's still there, personally I'm not a fan of hers but I rarely watch rte anyway.

There's a reason why people in the entertainment industry (actors, musicians, DJs, presenters, etc) pay much higher insurance premiums.

I think it is the combination of tweeting his exploits and then getting in to the car and driving that enrages me most. He seems to think he is bigger then the law.

    My Drink Driving Shame
Tv and radio personality opens up about his inner demons and toll it took on his life.

That headline will be in one of the tabloids soon enough though I'd much prefer the following:

Shamed Tv and radio Personality Sexually Assaulted in Prison.

Absolutely no excuse for what he did and to spend the hours before writing about how much he had drank and taking photos is disgraceful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭amdublin

And that tshirt he is wearing is particularly disgraceful.

Wasn't he on the radio with lucy Kennedy? Hope he's sacked cause he was brutal! He should have more sense at his age.

I always find it strange when these "celebs" are caught drink driving, surely they're not short of a few bob for a taxi. Always knew "Baz" was a clown this just confirms it.

Is she any relation to Joan Burton? They look alike and both have voices that make my ears bleed.

As for that Baz fella ... possibly one of the most annoying flutes on telly.

He's been suspended for ONE MONTH without pay... seems like it's just a slap on the wrist..

    http://www.rte.ie/ten/2011/0304/ashmawyb.html
RTÉ has announced that it has suspended presenter Baz Ashmawy without pay for one month following a drink driving incident last weekend. An RTÉ statement reads: "RTÉ takes the issue of drink driving very seriously and has a long history of highlighting and raising awareness of campaigns against this behaviour.

"The news, last weekend that one of RTÉ 2fm's presenters, Baz Ashmawy was arrested following an incident with his car in Dublin and the information that he has subsequently been charged with drink driving, is a serious issue.

Given the age profile of the RTÉ 2fm audience and the number of people who listen to shows such as Baz's, this is something that RTÉ cannot ignore. We are relieved that the incident in question was a relatively minor one and unlike many more serious car crashes every year where lives are lost, thankfully, no-one was injured on this occasion. We are also pleased to learn that Mr Ashmawy has accepted the error of his actions and has apologised to all concerned.

We further understand that he does not plan to contest any charges that may be brought and will accept any decision handed down by the district court in relation to this incident. With this in mind RTÉ Radio has decided to suspend Mr Ashmawy without pay for a period of one month. We believe this suspension is warranted to highlight the unacceptable nature of drink driving and the high profile nature of Mr Ashmawy's position on 2fm.

As the events in question took place during personal time while he was not working for RTÉ and given his full acceptance of responsibility, we hope this suspension and whatever the outcome of any court proceedings will serve to highlight the issues involved and will act as a deterrent to others in the future."

The most pathetic thing in all this is that people actually follow Baz Ashmawy on twitter.
