Starting Triathlons

This year I'm going to enter into a few triathlons. I'm getting a little confused with Triathlon Ireland membership. Must you be a member of TI to enter any triathlons or only need membership for the national series?

For example, I'm based in Kerry so I'll be looking at doing the Waterville Tri, Killarney Tri, Kerryhead and maybe the Sneen Tri. Is it just a matter of signing up and away you go?

I don't plan on joining a tri club this year, if I get really interested in the sport maybe join Tralee next year.

    Answer is regarding licenses.

For any sanctioned TI event, you need a one day license or else to be a paid up annual member.
There are non TI tri's too that don't require one day licences.
Basically any on the TI calendar require licences.
If you are doing 3 or more then it's cheaper to buy annual membership which covers all races and no need for one day licences.

Also if you join a club you'll be required to be a TI member for most clubs.

Just to note on the TI v's non TI races. If the race is affiliated to TI you know it's insured. TI insurance covers all TI races and TI members in TI affiliated clubs training sessions.

If it's a non TI race, you need to check this yourself.

As mentioned previously, the above events require you have a license - but if you're only planning to do a couple of events this summer then its entirely possible to pay for a one day license for each one. Its entirely possible to purchase a license at any time during the season if you find yourself entering more races and reckon getting a annual TI license to be more cost efficient that purchasing one-days each time.

It might be also worth noting - the TI notes relating to these One Day Licenses or ODLs
Deadlines to Purchase One Day Licences:
    * For races being held on a Sat, Sun or bank holiday: midnight the Thu before race
    * For races being held on a weekday: midnight the day before the race
Note: It will not be possible to purchase one day licences after the above times or on the race day

They're a bit stricter than Joe Brown et al used to be with SI licenses Mick so ;)
