Not if you're getting it for cheap enough

I still have the 3G and have no problems with it at all

I have one. It's obviously slower than later models, but if it's a Good price, grab it :)

    I was offered a 16gb factory unlocked 3GS Friday for €250

    its a relic i wouldn't bother,
and apple officially don't support the 3g anymore its obsolete, you'll find most new apps now coming on stream will require 4.x firmware to run, which the 3g cant handle right, so youll be left behind,

you pay peanuts you get monkeys

My wife uses my old 3G and, while it was rubbish on 4.0, it works well (stable, but slowish) on 4.2.1.

The disadvantages over a new iPhone 4 are the slowness, the display and, in some cases, the lack of multitasking, but if you aren't a heavy user, or a game player, it's fine, if you get one at a suitable price.

I'm using a 3G on 4.2.1 and it runs perfectly!!
NEVER had an issue with it since I updated.

    I'd say go for it.
150 is a fair price (of course depending on condition etc.).
They can go for a lot more than that on adverts.

If you want to dip your toe in the iphone pool then its not a huge investment.

its is very old at this stage, they are very slugish, typing a mesage and it only starting to appear on screen when your on the 3rd word!
if in perfet 100% condition its worth €150 if you really must.
The most id be offering for a 3gs 16gb would be €200 aswell, thats all their worth too.

I've the 3G about two years now and apart from the issues caused by the 4.0 update, which were later resolved, its worked just fine for me. No delays or slowdowns and does everything I want it to do. I'm surprised you are being asked to pay €150 for it though cause thats what I paid for mine new 2 years ago.

On another point mentioned in earlier posts, I've never understood people who have to have the "fastest speed possible" for their gadgets, like how fast does something have to be for you people:confused::rolleyes:? Once it works correctly, why get so caught up with "My iPhone 4 can open an app half a second quicker than your 3G". Is your life so hectic that a half second is make or break?:D

If you're getting it for a decent price then go for it. I prefer Android because it does pretty much the same thing as Iphone but cheaper :D If Iphones were cheaper I wouldn't mind buying one although the batteries aren't the best.

the battery in all my iphone's (1st gen, 3g s and 4) have been better than my brother's desire and my desire hd.

iphone's have the best battery life out of all smart phones (i don't count blackberry in this as i don't think they are smart ;))
