An Outsider's View of a "Boardsie"

    Was on my way to Boards tonight, and I stumbled across this;

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=boards.ie

    Admittedly it made me laugh, but then I wondered what do people actually think of us?
    I mean, people here go on about how everyone that calls Joe is an idiot, how everyone that posts on Facebook is an attention seeker and how everyone that uses Twitter is a twat. So then, what are we, or, how are we perceived by outsiders?

    Well, there's some decent people here. And the other 99% aren't too bad.

    LOL -the first comment is spot on, it's literally only missing "coke and hookers" from suming boards.ie up!

    Outsiders don't have a view of what we are because once they discover us they become us. We're like a sick cult

    Yeah they missed the real heart of boards, our deep and intelligent conversations. I certainly will not be blasting it with piss

    I love the way the OP says I was on my way to boards tonight like it was his local :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 130 ✭✭thunderthing

    Random poster #1 should have said some pathetic, failure of a one-liner making fun of the OP, while posters #4 and #5 should have got into some equally-pathetic squabble over grammar and spelling. I hate this place sometimes.

    Banned users with a grudge.
    Time for a little rant.

    In the interest of openness, I will point out the following:
    1. I used to be a moderator here.
    2. Some moderators are ****, but that comes down to perspective. A lot of people thought that of me (and they were right).
    3. Most moderators are nice people who just want to help out in the day to day running of a site they enjoy using.
    4. Moderators are not paid, although sometimes they get a few free beers.
    5. This is the most important one. Certain users are under the impression that boards.ie owes them something, or they are IT students with a bit of internet knowledge and think they are better than the average boards user.
    These are the ones who tend to be banned, re-register, get banned again, complain about it in the Prison forum, re-reg, get banned again and so on. Then they get pissed off because the mods caught them out.

    6. Some of hte new admins are power tripping dicks.
    Please not that I said the new admins. The original ones are all sound, but one or two of the new ones allowed that little bit of extra power go to their heads.

    7. Boards is a great resource.
    If you hate it so much, why the **** are you still here?
    Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's still a great site.
    There are a lot of **** using the site, but **** exist outside the internet too. If you have not learned this yet, then you really need to get out more.

    Life is hard. Wear a helmet.

    Does anyone remember that picture where there was a list saying;
    "You Are;
    1. Non-religious
    2. From middle-class
    etc.."

    Think that pretty much sums up your average Boardsie.

    Not getting you?

    Are you saying that the pressure of moderating turns people into nerdy gaybags and that the pressure of modding as well as the power trip you went on as a mod is the reason you're no longer a mod?

    Yes. I'm a nerdy gaybag, and that is why I'm no longer a mod.

    While Google will not explain 're-reg' to you, I'm sure you understand the term perfectly well. If not, maybe you need a newer name (or a newer e-mail address, IP address, or something equally Greek geek). Souvlaka might taste nice.
