Hi folks, am planning on cycling to work in Cork city, travelling from Midleton. I'll stick the car in the bike and not being a cyclist so far I' intend to park up in Little Island train station and cycle in from there. Thing is I am wondering on the best cycle route to get from there to the city centre. Here's a map showing what I was planning http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4314835. But how do I get across to the Lower Glanmire Road? Anyone do this regularly? Or have any suggestions? Thanks for any advice

Well this is how I would do it (LINK) or you want a direct route into the north side this is an option but does have a hill which if your new to cycling may be a 'challenge'...
    Best of luck!!

Do this route often.Straight in dual carriageway, stop at exits ,wait for break in traffic and scamper across, this is not as scary as it sounds and only takes couple of seconds. You should leave car at home and cycle all the way Midleton to little Island is very easy cycle wide shoulder and flat.Did this commute today cold this morning but sunglasses weather on way home.Hope to see you on road.

There's no road where you turn left after Richmond on your map Shug02. At best it's a trail, and you won't be able to get back out onto the N8 from there. Even if you did get out there, you would be on the east bound side.

If it was me, I would come straight in the dual carriageway the whole way. It's perfectly safe all the way to the Little Island exit. You'll need to be a little assertive after that on the short three-lane stretch. Failing that I would go with thebouldwackers first link.
