But for the fact that just because the Empire has been killed doesn't mean that all of these planets would be suddenly liberated...

What about the indigenous peoples who supported the Empire? Where's their party, huh?

There was none of that interplanetary celebration in the original, un-scathed version. The Ewoks did a dance and that was that. Bah.

Actually in the books there was a huge clampdown by the empire on people who celebrated palpatines death, i even remember something them tracking down the dudes who pulled down the statue. Palpatines death didn't result in the fall imediately but it was the beginning of the end, with many cutthroat moffs and noone crafty enough to control them around, it wasn't long before the empire fragmented and eventually fell.

what lucas did with the re-mastered version is bordering on sacrilege. while some people may say it's only a movie ,to others it's a religion. theres no way that hayden git should be part of the finale in return of the jedi.to me there will always be only one face of vader and that's the late great sebastian shaw.

I agree that Hayden probably shouldn't have appeared in ghost form. I guess the reason Lucas included him is that he's trying to make the point that Anakin "died" the moment he became Vader. But then it doesn't make sense that he could enter this ghost form in the first place when all the other ghost jedi appear to have to learn the this special secret trick. Even Luke looking at Anakin like he recognises him is a bit of a stretch. Ho hum.

That said tho I prefer the 1997 celebration ending and revised music over the original choice.

    This is being over-analysed.

agree with last post, accept the origonals are great and burn the rest. Lucas was a nobody when making the first few.

He had a great team to support him. It was luck those movies were so great and not his luck. The rest of everything he did when he was soley in charge was just a giant steaming turd and devoid of anything rational or fun. It proves that star wars aside from the origonal concept wasn't really his creation or he just didn't care about it after jedi.

Dude, no offence but the Empire didn't fall.....It's still very much there a hundred years ABY. The new Galaxy is administered by a triumverate of the Jedi Grand Master, the Galactic Senate High Counsellor and the Galactic Emperor.

Granted the Empire is a LOT smaller and its been through the ringer, but they're still there!

Actually happened in the books apparently; Imperial police and secret police rounded up the guys who pulled down the statue of the emperor and interned them and tortured them!

    Think China post-Tianeman Square

This, in one of the wraith squadron books a character was part of a team that rebrodcast the death star blowing up on coruscant, he talked about how he was at the statue and then stormtroopers came and opened up on the crowd

I think the books really make it a better series; like LOTR the books are nice and dark and the films are to make serious coin for the powers that be.
