    Hey guys

Looking for a first bike and have it down to two

    KTM Strada 1000

    or

    Cube Peloton

Cube is a little cheaper but based on my newbie knowledge the KTM has a slightly better spec.

    Which should I go for?

    Hi Walshy123

Both bikes look good, I rode a Cube and found it to be quite a good handling bike. However you should take a look at these and are quite good value.

Cycle Inn used to do KTM's, and still do some mtb's by them but I've heard several stories about parts being very difficult to get. So much so that they themselves advised me away from a KTM road bike and suggested the likes of Giant etc.

With cyclesuperstore dealing so strongly in Cube's, I can't imagine there would be any problem with parts there.

On the other hand the KTM is bound to be rarer than the cube on the road if that matters to you.... but really if your KTM isn't orange then you're doing it wrong! :D

What parts would be difficult to get? Surely everything on a bike is easily replaceable.

Think it might have been a frame warranty issue or something. It could all be rosy in the garden now but it wasn't the first supplier/distributor related grumbling I'd heard so it put me off em at the time.

Lovely bikes though. Particularly their 990 v-twins :)

So you guys wouldnt be swayed by the tiagra/105 mix on the KTM vs the tiagra groupset on Cube?

How does Ritchey compare to FSA?

    And Mavic v Easton?

Sorry for the newbie questions! I originally planned to get a Trek 1.2 but both these bikes seem much better value.

@fazer1- can't view that link on iPhone. Will check out later. I note it's s German site. Are they available locally?

I didn't pay toomuch attention to the spec tbh but 105 could be a game changer alright with all other thing equal. With regard to finishing kits and wheels at that price point I'd say you'd be splitting hairs. At the end of the day there's no substitute for closing the Internet browser, going down the shops, throwing your leg over a few and buying the one you like best!

Cyclesuperstore will have the cube in stock for you to see & cycle inn might have the KTM.

No use to you if you're not in Dublin of course.

it is worth noting there is a full 105 groupset. I dont know where you are based but they are for sale in Kilkenny cycles. Look like a nice bike.

Sorry, I should have said, I came across these two bikes following a trip to the shops yesterday. My original preference was for a Trek but these look to be better spec'd for the same money.

The only 105 components on the KTM are the rear detailera and front/rear hubs. The rest is Tiagra. This originally had me favouring the KTM but prefer the look of the Cube. Feel wise there was nothing in it.

So hence I turned to you Boardies for some impartial advice!

If it's any help to you, we've been selling KTM for over two years and we have had no problems at all with warranty. We don't sell Cube but they do look like good bikes. I couldn't see you going wrong with either of these two bikes.

I should add, I don't think anything from Trek, Giant or Specialised comes anywhere near to matching either of these two bikes in terms of the spec you get for the price you pay - and I sell some of these brands too.

I can't find much information/reviews on the KTM Strada in Google..
The little feedback I got was that the seat tube was steep (74.5deg on a 55cm size bike).. what could that mean in pratical terms?

Anyone here with a KTM Strada please leave some feedback!

    Cheers

I just want to say that's pretty sound to admit that as a vendor of Giant/Trek/Specialized. Fair play!

I work in a bike shop that sells Cube, and wold echo what he says; both bikes look good, you won't go too far wrong. Giant, Trek, Specialized all make lovely bikes, but you do end up paying premium for premium brands, and often the "value" is only to be found in the higher end models.

I picked up my first bike, a Strada 1000 at the weekend but wont have it for a few weeks. I looked in CSS but wasnt crazy on anything they had there, feel I got a better speced bike with the Strada, and looks good too.

OP, which did you go for in the end? A positive review of the Strada i hope...:pac:

    Hey
Got mine a few weeks back and so far so good. Got it in The Cycle Inn, Tallaght. Excellent advice from shop personnel. Was undecided between KTM Strada 1000 and Giant Defy 2.
KTM geometry felt better and the spec was better too.

I haven't done the first initial service yet as the bike performs really well. There is a small noise I should look for and eliminate but haven't got the time to do it so far.

    Some photos:

ps: pedals are not the factory spec, but got them offered/swapped by the original ones.

It's my first road bike, so I don't have any comparison.. other than my mountain bike :p

I'm new to road bikes, in fact it is my first. I had a Trek mtb and I found it very good, but wanted to change. So I did a bit of research for a road bike on the net and in shops for around the €1000 mark. First I looked at the Trek 1.2 as I already had a Trek and trouble free but I ended up buying the KTM Strada 1000 and I am over the moon with it. Full Shimano set (wheels, gears, brakes are Tiagra and the derailler is 105). I bought it from Paddy in Cyclesports in Dungarvan, where I got a great deal. Highly recommend to pop into them. The bike is lovely to ride and I would also highly recommend anyone who is looking for a bike around this price to consider this model. It has only 1 downfall, the seat is fairly rough to get used to, even if you have a pair of proper cycling shorts, but that might be just me as im 15st. (no fat jokes please)..

KTM strada 1000 all the way. :-)

Hey, just wanted to report I had completed 1500km on this bike.
It was mostly commute rides (14k/day) so you get the perspective I will comment on.

So far the bike has handled pretty well and the stock components are not showing signs of wear. Wheels are pretty much ok and have not gone out of true. The seat is starting to have the leather fade, that's mostly because I cycle in jeans...
I have recently got some Crud Roadracer mudguards... here is your first warning: they wont fit completly. Front wheel is ok, but in the back you'll have to trim near the brakes, so the section closest to the seattube will not have mudguard. It's not a major problem imho.

The summary so far is pretty positive and I would recommend the bike.

Picked up a strada 3000 full ultegra groupset from Ritchies in Swords two weeks ago. It has basically been an extention of my arse since purchase. Absolute stonkin bike, did months of research before buying and got a very very good price after a fair bit of haggling. going for 1499 sterling, 1350 yoyos paid for it.

Would recommend this bike with no reservation. Full spec here:

Sorry to re ignite this but I was wondering if I could get some opinions based on the prices I've been quoted for each? I can pick up a Strada 1000 for £659 or a 2014 Cube Peleton Pro for £747.
They both seem to have a combo of Shimano Tiagra and 105??
Was set on the cube until I saw this deal on the Strada.
    Your thoughts are appreciated.
