Applemint plant taking over

Have a nice wooden half barrel with 7 or so different herbs. Have noticed around the edges of the planter the mint plant, it seems to be spreading and growing everywhere. I wouldn't want this to take over and stop the other herbs from growing. Is it best to dig out the main part of the plant and repot in a seperate pot? Will this kill the rest of it off? All the plants got hit in the frost but the others in particular seem to be dwindling

Afaik apple mint is as aggressive as ordinary mint. You need to take it out of the barrel and put it in a separate, confined, container. Any bits of root left stand a good chance of sprouting.

as above....mint is extremely agressive and will grow to fill what ever space is alloted to it - trying to remove it completely is nigh on impossible as even the smallest piece of root will regrow...when planting mint that needs to be contained, its best to plant it in a pot in the ground or else to sink a barrier around the plant at least a foot deep... at this point it might be easier to leave it to the tub it's in and replant your other herbs elsewhere.
