Highly unlikely the points will drop that low, psych is pretty popular.

Not too late to put in more study though and get over 500

It's not like a bunch of people sit down in a room and debate who's clever enough to get in, there's nothing to consider. Points are based off demand for a course, not difficulty. If you don't get more points than everyone else who is applying you don't get in.

Generally a fluctuation of +/- 10 points is reasonable enough to assume. So if you're friend wants to be in with a chance, they'd be aiming at 535-ish at the lowest

Skyleo, do you know how the points system works?

It's not a limit set by the college, for most courses the college don't even "consider" applicants. The points that you see the newspapers etc. are just the points of the lowest-scoring person on the course last year.

Basically when you apply through the CAO, your name goes onto the list for that course. When the results come out, that list is put into order of points - starting with the highest and going down through to the lowest. If the course has 20 places, the first 20 people on the list get in and the points of the 20th person are shown as a guideline.

But if your friend is looking at course that usually ends at 545, then it is unlikely that they'll get in with 490, unless a load of students with over 545 decide not to apply for it...
