    I highly doubt it.

Why? For the same reason UCD will be the only university to offer veterinary medicine for the foreseeable future. Supply and demand, we don't have enough jobs for medicine grads as it is, what's the point in churning out even more of them? Aside from that I would imagine there are serious monetary and strategic issues with randomly starting up such a course out of nowhere. Its not the same as just offering another variation of a nursing/engineering degree, you have to start from scratch, whole new modules, new facilities for those modules. Also, I'd say it would be a fun process trying to get accredited.

I have to say this, I'm sorry, but don't speak in "txt" on boards, its seriously annoying, also med =/= DCU.

= means equals, is the same as, duplicate, equivalent, like... grr... I'll stop dissecting your post now for fear I'll go crazy.

If that's how you ask a serious question, having you as my doctor would put the fear of god into me! Diagnosis would be a bit of craic though :p

No, but they've just opened a new building to help people speak English.

No there definitely will not be, but the plans to merge DCU, NUIM and RCSI are ongoing so DCU will be able to offer medicine indirectly through the RCSI (which I suppose is not anything extra than what's on offer from RCSI now.)

The recently published government report on education in Ireland specifically states that universities will have to streamline course and not mirror the offerings of each other so courses like medicine will not be offered in any more universities in the foreseeable future.

There are plans for a strategic alliance, saying they're going to merge is a bit of an exaggeration. But the point still stands, if DCU starts offering medicine within the next 20 years I'll eat my hat...

well in fact it's not an exaggeration, that's what the long term plan is, it may start as an strategic alliance but the goal is to merge, and that's according to documentation circulated by the President/Provost/Head of each institution to university staff

Really? It's news to me, I see no mention of a total merge in the last document I received, signed by the three heads, from December 10th 2010, but this is largely off topic so I may consider myself corrected.

when this idea was announced in summer 2009, that was what was proffered. The document you are referring to did seem to backtrack slightly, however I do believe the Hunt Report suggests a long term merger rather than a convenient alliance - but hey, it all seems to be a lot of hot air at the moment

    http://www.irishtimes.com/focus/2011/hunt-report/index.pdf

But to get back on track, No, DCU will not be offering Medicine for the foreseeable future
