Just seen him on RTE now, why wasnt he used during the campaign?
Would have been great to have had him chair one or more of the leaders' debates

Yeah big loss alright.................believe he has taken time off though to complete a book about RTE or something..........

RTE shafted him to accommodate Pat the plank. His age was surely a factor too. He, as an historian is working on the 50th Anniversary of RTE for next year though.

He is RTE's best along with Sean O'Rourke if you ask me and should at least have his own political radio show. The Late Debate for example would suit him.

It's good to see him back for the election results. His contributions today have been excellent.

yes retired, he's in his 80's I think, but there again so is Garrett Fitzg.

Bowman is still on the radio, Sunday mornings, so he hasn't gone away, you know.:D

I think John Bowman is a genius (and I always use that word sparingly) - he's just so knowledgeable.

In terms of the other presenters, my favourite is the relatively new addition Richard Crowley. He doesn't bring any kind of the knowledge that Bowman does, but he's a straight talker and always to the point.

Just to clarify Richard Crowley was with RTE in the 90s left for some time and came back a few years ago.

When people get old - they retire. Partly to enjoy (hopefully) a more relaxing and easier way of life; but also partly because they can no longer keep up wit the demands of everyday wear and tear.
Footballers are over the hill at 38 - political commentaters last to about 65. Beyond that- in my opinion - they are only wheeled out as relics to a bygone age.

Kenny is among the best current affairs broadcasters in the country and I'm always amazed that some people can't separate the light entertainment style of broadcasting typified by the Late Late from current affairs. Questions & Answers had become stale and, honestly, the Frontline is a better show with an equally questioning and probing host.
