Building your own guitar/gear - Convention?

    Hi All

As I'm really getting into guitar building, I'd love to meet up with you other guys here that build your guitars/amps/effects etc to trade tips, tricks, contacts, and show off our work.

I was thinking along the lines of hiring a community centre\school\sports hall or a function room some friday/saturday evening. Bring your stuff, bring some beer and hopefully have a good time. Possibly have a workshop, maybe a jam.

Also I'd invite any other of the regular instrument boardsies to come along and have a beer.

Who'd be up for it? Any ideas on timing? Any preferences on where? Anyone know anywhere cheap to hire?

I'd gladly look into organising it, anyone who wants to volunteer to help is more than welcome.

But first things first....do you think its a runner?

    cheers Damo

    Great idea...
Had a similar idea before about maybe organising an amp show....
Would be a great chance to get to play some beauts that we'll never own.... Between all the people here and on ads, there'd be a lot of amps/guitars/effects that we could try out.

As regards a venue i guess its down to where themajority of the people are, but I could possibly get a very good deal on a hotel up this neck of the woods ;)

I don't build gear but I'd definitely be interested in a meet-up depending on location and date/time of course.

This is a really great idea. I think most musicians have at some point thought about making their own gear but have no idea where to start. Seeing how others have got on with builds would be really encouraging.A really good idea and a chance to ask questions from those more experienced!

I would suggest seperating the main event and the beers though. possibly having a drinks session afterwards for those interested might go down better.
This leaves the main event open to enthusiasts of all ages and eliminates the risk of the inevitable spillages and damage to gear.

Hope it works out for you.Great idea!

Yeah this is a great idea! Would be good to get to see all the ctuff being done by guys here!
I would be happy to do a workshop for anyone that would be interested in any particular aspect of building oir repairing or whatever!
I think is a good idea to seperate the beers and main event, as suggested by kneeelix, just incase any accidents happen!
During the summer would suit me best as I wont be able to get there before then but hopefully if it goes well there could be another one in the summer!

I'd be up for that. I'm new to mods, just started tweaking the crybaby wah I bought a few weeks ago. I might post up photos as well when it's done as it's a Dunlop Rev C (with a power jack) and I found instructions for it after a lot of trawling, but no pictures anywhere.

    Hi all

This didnt real get the response i was hoping for to make this feasible. So I have tweaked it to be just purely a convention rather than having a social element, Any more takers?

My preference for date was easter week or early June, and in the Dublin area.

    Cheers

    Damo

Sounds like it might be fun, but I have a lot on my plate at the mo (new baby next month) and my skills are maybe not up to public scrutiny, but I might learn a thing or two and maybe share what little knowledge I have. Would be great if we could involve all types of musical styles and equiptment, Im sure there are wood turners out there making whistles and stuff, more of a musical craft fair, any one up for making wooden picks:D. The later in the year the better for me as I also have a couple more builds I'd try and finish first aswell. But pencil me in for now
