I bought dhb bib tights from wiggle. Excellent price and fit

+1 on dhb, they are a great start for anyone, good value and good quality.
sizing is as close to normal clothing sizing than anything else out there, takes the guess work out of sizing yourself properly,as with most Italian sizing.

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-earnley-cycling-bib-shorts/

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-pace-padded-bib-tight/

The above would be the cheapest in the dhb range, though still very good quality and perfect for a beginner.........or anyone else for that matter

This crowd in the States have good deals on bibs and jerseys http://www.love2pedal.com/Store/Search.aspx?Page=1&Sort=1&key=bibs, they can also be found on ebay http://stores.ebay.ie/LOVE2PEDAL-Bicycle-Jerseys-Shorts?_rdc=1. Not too sure on the quality of their bibs, but they have some very nice and unusual jerseys, which the quality is good

Here is an example of their DELUXE bib http://stores.ebay.ie/LOVE2PEDAL-Bicycle-Jerseys-Shorts?_rdc=1

Here is an example of their Standard bib http://cgi.ebay.ie/2pr-56-BIBS-BIBSHORTS-Large-L-cycling-bike-shorts-NEW-/380319271005?pt=US_Men_s_Athletic_Apparel&hash=item588ccb885d

The above 2 links are priced for 2 bibs, but as I said, I have no idea what the quality is like, but at that price, as a beginner, it might be worth a punt. I do know that their size guide is more or less spot on, well it is with their jerseys anyway.

    Two other brands that stood out for me were;

    1) Santani Bib Shorts

    2) Pearl Izumi Attack shorts.

    Are these any good?

    Thank u!

Although Assos stuff ie expensive to buy initially they are very good value in the end because they are so well made.

I have some Giordana stuff aswell and it looks fairly tired from being washed so much when commuting but the Assos stuff still looks like new!

I got a pair of Santini GITCX Bib Shorts for €70, high quality kit.
I also have a pair of Nalini Credit Agricole 2008 Team Bib Shorts which I got off Wiggle for €24, they were in the clearance section and only in size small, normally they cost about €70.
I have a pair of Aldi shorts too but they are rags compared to my other kit.

I have 2 pairs of DHB, one is Finchdean the other is Earnly, the finchdean, which is the more expensive, is way better in terms of padding, but both are good. Wish I had a pair of finchdean bibtights, but don't seem to exist

    I'd agree.
I have both dhb Finchdean & Pace Roubaix. The padding in the Finchdean is much better but you get what you pay for eh. Pace Roubaix are still very good value.

DHB are for wide people, IMO. I hate them.

edit: to clarify, I hate DHB shorts, not wide people.

thats cos wide people are great for drafting behind, thats why I get left up the front a lot on club spins :p

I see Prendas have size chart there. It's confusing though. If you're at 185cm height, but weigh 90kg you have to get an xxl which is for people up to 195cm in height. is the fit going to feel odd or loose?

santini myself i wear xl ones i'm 5'10" and 100kg (just got a new apair of twist gel ones for 70 euro on sta - castle cycles clothing sale)

To throw further confusion into the mix, I've a pair of Santini bibs also in size L and I'm 6' 0" and 101kg on last weigh. I bought them according to some sizing chart. Initially I found them a bit restrictive around the neither region and was regretting not having gone for the XL but after a few wears I find them quite comfortable. If purchasing another pair I'm not sure if I'd go for the L or XL

I like DHB shorts, the 2011 stuff is miles better than previous generations.

CRC used to have adidas stuff at rock bottom prices, some pretty comfy shorts, only 30 euro...and blue!

I recently purchased a pair of Assos T RX bib knickers from Wiggle at the amazing price of €39.56, I had ordered 2, 1 Red and 1 Blue, but I only received the blue, as the red was over-ordered, and at least I got 1 pair.... My bargain for the rest of the year I would say:D

To OP - I'm new to cycling myself, and got a pair of cycling shorts in halfords for 15 quid. I wont be doing the tour de France but they're enough to stop your arse getting sore if you're just heading in/out to work and the odd spin on the weekends. I'll have to wait a few years before I can justify 100 quid or so on some lycra!

Aldi normally have their cycling stuff in April, since you are looking for value.
