    Hi All,

Am doing a self build in Dublin, did loads of research on roof slates and decided to use Natural Roof Slates, we bought a job lot from a salvage yard which looked identical to the Vigo tile from LBS. They have been on the roof for a couple of weeks and some tiles have turned pure white, I am having a complete panic now, cant seem to find a soloution on the Internet, dont know why its happening and how I can resolve the issue?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Lisa

Yeah I will get some photos today, will be up on site later so will post some close up shots of the slates...

Im being told by the supplier that i will just have to accept it and wait for it to weather off but if you saw how bad its looking I dont know if its an option, I was hoping that there was some sort of exterior slate oil or chemical that would remove it, its like a white salt mineral making its way to the surface of the slates

    Cheers

Probably salts coming through. Will stop eventually, we have treated it on walls with a wash of 70% Vinegar to 30% warm water. Your local chipper will sell you bulk vinegar.
That's advice given without seeing the pics though.
