I'm just wondering if FG's policies have alienated the public servant vote at all, as they seem to be romping home to become the next government, which could spell bad news for a lot of people in the public sector.

I'm public and voted FG - it has to be done.

At least everyone will get it though.

I am a public servant and i voted labour. Not because of FG policy, they are correct insofar as the public service needs to be streamlined. voted for who I felt ws the strongest candidiate in my constituency.:)

I'm a public servant and I voted for the FG candidate. Our constituency was changed after the last election and the FG candidate came around to the area over the last few years informing people of this and asking if they had anything they'd like to bring to their attention. The primary labour candidate didn't bother to lower themselves to canvas our area, plus I'm not impressed with their general demeanour as a public representative or political background.

To be honest, our constituency is always going to be a FG, Labour One, Two.

For sure the turkeys will definately have voted for Labour, however perhaps all those public sector staff who put down a hard days work like everyone else are sick of the freeloaders using them as a human shield. and may have voted for FG.

Give me four nurses over four maintainance guys who cost almost the same but are quailified to do nothing but change lightbulbs anytime.

If we don't make the demands set out by the IMF/EU they will come in and machette the PS, they know if FG do it they will get a much better deal. They had a great few years under FF but people in the PS are fully aware what lies ahead. A lot of my family work in the PS and know they are screwed either way, they voted FG and Labour.

Labour followed by independents. Have always voted labour. To me FF and FG are the same thing.

Well I suppose you will need a nurse after you fall down the stairs in the dark.
That is if you dont need a funeral director.................

Well what were the other choices? Let see same old FF driving us into the ground or Labour wanting to keep social welfare and public service the way it is?

Reality is that some areas of the public sector are like money pits - HSE prime example.
Cuts have to be made and redundancies if they do come along will be difficult on anyone affected. But where people are getting money for old rope it really is time to cut it loose.

Or what are you propose? That we all hold our breath as we go down the plug hole.

Its time to come back to reality.

Have you ever worked in our glorious health sector? Because there is far more chance of somebody falling over in the dark in the few hours it takes maintainence to finally get around to it doing it, ehen any other member of staff could pop in a replacement bulb in a few seconds, but are not permitted because the unions have mandated that is a maintainance staff only 'job'. If you are happy enough for a dedicated staff of four just for that purpose then I guess you and I have very diffferent views on where our taxes should go.

This was my experience working part time in a very small hospital whiel a student.

I still know alot of people working there and guess who are getting let go because finances are tight? Non permanant nursing staff.

They'll still need to be public services. I'm sure many are hoping a clear out of the dead wood would help them make their job efficient. Who knows its a complete gamble.

I voted mainly for Independents, but FG and Labour did get a vote from me. I would have voted higher for FG if I believed reforming the PS was that important to them, but the candiates in my area when canvassing did not talk about Public reform, so I don't there will be to many cuts(If any).
