Question Re: Selling a phone on eBay

    Hi guys,

I sold an old Nokia 6300 I had last week. It wasn't working properly and I stated as such in the auction very clearly. However, I described the problem as
the screen sometimes goes all white and says 'contact operator'

When the buyer received it he said when he tried it, it said 'contact service' which would be correct, I simply got mixed up when I was typing the description.

He says it's a big difference and is asking for a part refund as he's willing to take a chance on it. Where do I stand here, because it was described as faulty is it sold as seen? or am I liable because I described it wrong?

Normally, I wouldn't bother and would give him the part refund but I notice from his recent transactions that he today bought a new fascia for the model I sold him (mine was cracked), so I'm assuming hes got it working and is ready to sell it on!

I'm 99% sure I'm in the wrong here but just thought I'd gather some opinions first before I send off the refund!

    Cheers

It was stated on the auction that the item was faulty, what does he expect.

hold onto the emails in case he logs a dispute with paypal

Your post also says "sometimes" it says contact operator, there for i would take that to mean that sometimes it might say something else.

You described it as faulty and it is i can't see how you are in the wrong at all.

Everytime i sell something on eBay, the buyer looks for a rebate for some of the money. It's a disease on eBay that needs to be sorted by eBay. Total chancers looking for a quick buck.

    +1

Faulty item is faulty... big shock! Was the buyer expecting a working phone?

Once it says "faulty item" on the listing, paypal should deny the claim if the buyer files one.
