My gf's 00 Renault megane coupe is sufferering an intermittent problem but its getting more and more frequent. When she turns the key and starts the car it wont idle and the rev needle just drops to 0 and the car conks out. Also sometimes when the car actually does idle it revs up and down from around 1000 to 2000 rpm…

Any idea how I can sort this and is it major?

Try cleaning the throttle body. That solved similar problems for me.
