Hi, just wondering can anyone give me a quick synopsis on the different parties policies on abortion or a referendum for such? Particularily labour.

    Thanks.

Labours looking to legalise abortion under special cases like rape, incest and health issues.
Which is a good thing from where I stand.

Labour want to legislate the X Case of 1992 when the life of the mother is at stake

Some of them are here although unfortunately Labour is the only one of the main parties to answer the question.

Note, they don't actually say they'll legislate for rape, contrary to a previous poster's assertion.

I dont see how legalising abortion for rape, incest cases could possibly work. It would have to be proven in court that the person was raped and by the time that happened it would be to late for an abortion:confused:

There's no reason the bar has to be set that high. In Brazil, as far as I know, it is legally possible to obtain an abortion upon reporting that a rape has taken place - though in practice, due to anti-abortion sentiment and severe legal penalties for "illegal" abortions, most providers will not carry out the procedure without a fairly persuasive police report.
