Imagine waking up to that news on Sunday morning, and far more likely than Michéal Martin becoming Taoiseach.

Nah, besides the election takes days to count. The only thing we do quickly in this country is capitulate to external economic pressures.

Although all the evidence at our disposal suggests that FF will suffer a very significant seat loss at this election. am I the only person who doesnt believe it until it actually happens

I promise you that you will NOT see that headline on Sunday (unless the media outlet is lying or incompetent).

In fact, I completely guarantee it.

Mainly because the Taoiseach is elected by the Dáil which doesn't convene until WEDNESDAY 9th March. So it'll be a Wednesday or a Thursday when he gets elected :D.

So while the rest of your life may be ruined, at least you can sleep easy the next two weekends.

Im witcha on that one! I reckon they'll get more seats than the country thinks though

Fortunately she's not even running this time around so the entire country has already won this election.

Now if you'll excuse me I must get back to earning the money to pay the tax that pays for the 57 y/o's pension.

That's what I thought last time. Those slimy Greens stabbed us all in the back that day. bad, bad people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭BuzzFish

Labour had a much higher vote than expected... except in Dun Laoghaire.
As Eamon Gilmore was not elected the job of Taoiseach has gone to Joan Burton.

    Worst Outcome Ever ;-)

    On a side note:
Angela Merkel has promised to not harang too much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭strokemyclover

This is why I'm not voting! If I found out I contributed to any of the next government (which most of us know will be the worst government in Irish history regardless of who it is composed of) I wouldn't be able to sleep again.

From all the coverage I've observed over the past few weeks for plans for the future, Fianna Fail aren't the worst to be honest. Though, in order to vote for one of them I'd have to disregard their performance over the past few years.

In summary, we're all f*cked regardless of who leads our country. The next government will not last the full term and effective Irish politics is broken beyond repair. Bring back the Guillotine.

Gotta say, in different circumstances I would have liked to see Martin become Taoiseach. Obviously, with his connection to FF he doesn't have a chance, but I think he's extremely capable and a great speaker, much better at communicating with the people than Inda and for some reason I get the feeling he could still possibly make a great Taoiseach in the future. But perhaps that's my Cork bias speaking.

Imagine waking up in Dublin City Centre being ravaged by Michael Martin!

And if any of you think thats implausible, there quite a few people who have been screwed by Cowen and Ahern.

You make it sound like he's a consultant or something. He's held several ministeries and has been elected to the Dail as a TD since 1989. And now he is the leader of that self preservation society.

He might be good at debating but that counts for nothing if you are one of the 450,000 unemployed or one of the 100,000 forced emigrants because of his party and their policies which he either formed or supported.

The man has done fu*k all for the people of his constituency or the people of the Country. Maybe it's my Cork bias speaking but I hope the people of South Central would eventually wake up to this muppet.
