Dilemma for 1st preference

Basically, I'm a first time voter in meath east. Out of the parties my first preference would be Fine Gael followed by Labour. However looking at the candidates in my constituency the Labour candidate Dominic Hannigan seems far more competent than either Regina Doherty or Shane McEntee, the Fine Gael ones.
So what do you think i should do, give my first preference the what i think is the best party or to whom i think is the best candidate?

Paddy power has McEntee and Hannigan at 1/18, both pretty certain to get in.

The question is whether Doherty can beat Byrne for the 3rd seat. I'd vote Doherty #1, and transfer to Hannigan, then McEntee.

A little off topic but looking at meath east map on RTE website, it appears Meath no longer has a coast. I am registered in Meath west myself so had sort of ignored what happened in meath east after the 5 seater was split, but are Bettytown, Laytown, Stamullen ect. now in Louth of Dail? Surely not?
