People at the polling station

Where I went to vote there was the usual table with two people sitting at it crossing off your name. Then there was another table across the room with two more people. I could hear them discussing my name and who I might be related to. Who the hell were those other people and what were they doing in there

Just the usual folk who must gossip about others, just to make their dull lives a little more exciting.

    Why didn't you ask them?

    Personation agents for a candidate(s).

Each candidate is allowed have a personation agent in each polling booth who has the authority to accuse voters of impersonating another individual. In reality the personation agents are used to gather information about who has voted (which is not what they are supposed to be doing).

Everytime I go into a polling both the personation agent asks my identity - I refuse to give it. They are only entitled to accuse me of personation when I request a ballot paper. At that point I am supposed to be arrested - however - once I am proved to be the person that I am then I can claim compensation from the personation agent for false accusation.

I'd say that would be going too far:pac:

The polling booth is the room in the polling station where you receive the ballot paper from the presiding officer - not the booth where you vote. Have a look at your polling card and it will have a 'booth' number on it.
