    Also I don't know what the reg was but I'm hugely curious to know why you want to know. (I'm hoping it's something like there's a joyrider going up and down your road doing nosethrowers in that car)

    Subject to it being 100% legal:
    Do you know anyone who knows someone working in the corpo?
    It is a long shot.
    Snag1: It is many years ago. Data could be destroyed.
    Snag2: It may not have been registered in his name.
    Snag3: Giving away this info could be against "the Data protection act".

    Other sources: Police forces, the media, his car insurance company.
    Did locals, after recovering from the shock; take photos?
    Was there a guard doing surveillance, who still has his notebook where the reg. no is written?

    There is a book "The General" by Paul Williams. Is there a photo of above mentioned car in that book? Could you ask persons in that job?

    All the above snags apply here also.
