Might be able to sort something for you on monday/tues (postwar M1 helmet and liner)... prices aren't certain, but it'll likely be in the region of £40... can probably get it down to dublin if you're in the area and can collect, particularly if there's no big rush on it...

With regards Ebay, if you want to get an M1 helmet with or without a mitchell leaf pattern cover (Vietnam) that is in good condition, be prepared to either a) pay for it or b) play the waiting game and eventually you'll find one in good condition that isn't going for looney prices.

You'll still get lamped for about €30 shipping since it's not exactly lightweight ...

If you do get one, I recommend getting some reproduction sweatband liners (they're cheap and not impossible to find) if you have a real one in there; they're designed to be perishable and will degrade with use/head-sweat.

    Or

check out some of the historical forums for sales - but you're dealing with people who know their kit and its worth so it'll be immaculate (or close therein) but you'll pay for it.

    Or

check out Moore militaria (real), Soldier of Fortune (repro), etc.

Edit: it's also possible to get the Mitchell leaf covers seperate too on ebay, but they [real issue] range in price from < $10 to many pennies and it's hit or miss as to which you'll find at any moment in time.

Just so yo uknow .... Chris20's link is actually not a bad price for real M1 helmets in good condition complete with internal strap/liners. I've seen them go for a lot, lot more on ebay. Granted you need to source a mitchell leaf helmet if you want to go for a vietnam era look, but most of the battle is getting an M1 helmet in good condition in the first place.

As for the total being €62 (including shipping), I'm sorry .... but wtfh are you expecting? a) these are pretty much vintage antiques and b) they're heavy = not cheap shipping

€62 euro is cheap as chips for a piece of living history :)

If the OP is after viper m88 priced repro m1, hes going to be disapointed. Its a big lump of metal for a start... postage will be fun. Secondly, even repros have a tag to them because its not exactly factory made in china, they are hand made reproductions, and if you want it accurate, you have to pay. £60 for a helmet is relatively average anyway, m1 or otherwise.

Cheap for the helmet itself, although again; the cover pattern is post-Vietnam * for anyone wanting to do such a reproduction (You need mitchell-leaf pattern).

    * Yes, ERDL saw use in Vietnam, but not as standard issue for infantry units so helmet covers would have been rare to say the least.

    Just another option for you.
I've used these guys in the past for an M1 helmet and webbing and pouches. Can't complain about them.

How much was the shipping on it?

Shipping wasn't cheap but that order I made , had more than just the helmet, there were pouches , butt packs and a fair few other bits. Came in a large box. Shipping was $47, plus duty when it landed. So not sure how much the helmet shipped on it own would be. You could fire them off an email and they'll let you know.
