    I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'll give it a go...

    I'm trying to become more avid about Ireland's national rugby team, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information if you don't know what you're looking for specifically.

    I'd also like to learn a bit more about rugby league/union and the teams throughout Ireland.

    Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!x

    Howdy! Do you play rugby?

    Irish rugby is divided up into 4 professional provinces. They decided to do that because the club game was (and still is) amateur and the clubs were not big enough to compete in Europe due to population size, playing numbers etc.

    The 4 Irish teams play in the Magners league (used to be called the Celtic league) along with teams from Scotland, Wales and this year 2 Italian teams joined it. They also compete in the Heineken cup along with wealthy club teams from France and England. The winners of the heineken cup are European champions.

    The 6 nations is the international tournament thats on now involving Ireland, England, France, Wales and Italy. Thats an annual event. This is also a wolrd cup year. That takes place every 4 years and its on in New Zealand in september. Rugby in the rest of Europe isn't very strong although its growing in some places like Georgia, Russia etc.

    I hope thats some information you're looking for.

    A site you can go to are www.irishrugby.ie or www.irb.com which has plenty of information. Maybe search youtube for things too.

    I get my daily rugby fix on from the following websites;

    www.planetrugby.com - good up to date service on competitions on both sides of the equator, however I some of the opinion pieces sometimes drive me to distraction-but that's the nature of opinion pieces I suppose!

    For Purely Domestic research I go for;
    http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/rugby/ - Great if you want to keep up to date with domestic rugby here in Ireland and to see how the provinces are performing in the Magners League or Europe, both Heineken and Amlin

    and

    http://www.irishrugby.ie/home.php - Not much in the way of opinion or debate here but good to keep up with domestic fixtures, results, stats, injuries, suspensions etc

    and

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/index.html - I'd use this for the same reasons I'd use the Irish Times but I prefer the Irish Times' lay out personally.... good for the odd audio interviews on occasion however

    Finally, post-match I often check-out http://www.espnscrum.com/ as it keeps a good log of statistics of teams and players which is interesting and informative

    Hope this helps!!!
