Ball Scuff Resistance

I know it's probably been discussed b4 but what ball aimed at low handicaps do people think is best value. I use Pro V 1 (and I wouldn't be prepared to use anything much harder) and it scuffs pretty much after 1 wedge shot. Ridiculous.

I find the srixon Z stars to be very good.they have the control of a pro v and seem to more durable... cheaper aswell:)

Yeah, in the same predicament. Love the Pro VI and VIx but they cut up very badly if you tend to spin your wedges or get any sort of speed thru the ball with wedges. Very poor durability.

Try the Taylormade Penta. Best ball out there IMHO. Same feel and response as the Pro-V but much harder wearing and last and lasts. Cheaper too!

I find the pentas dont fly as far as the pro V...but yeah definatley more durable.
mcguirks are selling srixon Zstars for 24.99 a dozen on-line...worth trying out for that price:).....if there good enough for mcdowell and furyk....

Firstly, I am not a low handicapper, 11, but I used pentas for a while and found that I was losing a bit of distance, lacking "umph" off the tee. Beautiful ball on the green imho.

Srixon Z star are a nice ball. Like chalkie says..at that price they are definitely worth a go.

Tried wilson dx2 for a while. Not sure what others think of them. harder but i liked them. quite a raised edge on the dimples making them unusual to look at.

tried the z-star and found it scuffs just like pro v. heard the tp black was good?

Never tried the Penta but found the TP Black had a tendancy to baloon with the driver. Maybe its me (6 hcap) but Ive always found taylormade balls had that high loopy ballflight to them. I love the pro V1X TBH and usually play them when the better weather arrives. The nearest balls to Prov 1's I could find are the Srixons AD333. Felt nearly the same off the driver, longer if anything, and crucially for me felt soft around the green and off the Putter. They are cheap also and can be got for around 15E a dozen.

Suppose it's always going to come down to personal preference and feel at the end of the day. The TP red and black have been discontinued and both replaced by the penta. I played the TP Red before and to be honest I find exactly the opposite of rafared when playing into the wind. The taylormade balls always seemed to be easier to keep down into the wind and easier to hold against crosswinds also.

Many, many amateur players just don't have the swing speed for many of the premium balls like the Pro-V or Penta or Z star etc, etc. If you can't compress the higher end balls completely then you will actually lose distance compared to other balls. It's important to keep that in mind. But you will not hit one ball 230 and some other ball 250. The difference between balls is generally in the order of 5 or 6 yards at most. So it's hard to tell if you were hitting one ball longer because of the ball, your swing that day, or the weather conditions at the time.

But, I would gladly give up some distance off the tee to be able to have a little more control and feel on irons and around the green, whereas someone elses requirements may be all about length first and feel second.

think i'll buy 3 pentas and see what they're made of although i have a feeling that the spin milled wedges cut up every soft ball badly. thanks
