Hi, having recently splashed out over 2K on a 7D, i need a temporary cheap fix for a backdrop. I have pondered over the idea of a white polycotton superking bed sheet against a wall, which i would roll to prevent creases. Home Store & More have these in Black and White for about 20.00 euro each. Any thoughts or any ideas where to find affordable backdrops?

I have little experience with backdrops but I'm just getting going and I'm in the same boat as you.

I will be almost impossible to keep creases out though even if you iron it.

You might want to try to take a few stops out of the lights to give yourself a shallower depth of field and you will notice less creases.

Maybe stitch a couple of king size sheets and blow the S**t out of it so the seams can't be seen.

I can't help think why they are so expensive though...

The creases will be a problem alright, i was thinking of maybe using something like white waste pipe as a roller, glue the hem of the sheet along the length of it and roll it from there, might work might not!!!

I don't that will work - you will probably have to steam it every time you take it out.

You will definitely need to blow it out with a second strobe to stop the creases coming out in photos.

It'd be easy enough to 'shop out any creases, could be a pain if your going to be processing quite a few images though.

i saw on one of those creative live online seminar thingys, the guy doing it had big plasterboard panels.

    like this
    http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9273205&fh_view_size=12&fh_eds=%3f&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3C{9372016}%2fcategories%3C{9372048}%2fcategories%3C{9372250}%2fspecificationsProductType%3dplastering___plasterboard%2fspecificationsSpecificProductType%3dplaster_board&fh_refview=lister&isSearch=false

peeled off one side of it and it gave a nice textured backdrop, well, he made it look good, its cheap enough so might be worth a go??

What about a plain coloured wall paper and shop in the white after with a ps action the

    2 caveats
the model will have to be far enough away to avoid refelection of the background colour so you would need a big room

the model will not be able to wear anything that contains the colour of the background.

ah feck it just go with a big white overexposed sheet
