Just found this on Ebay, looks like an eastern european rip off of a land rover. peugeot powered, ugly as sin but cheap.

Neighbours had one of these years ago they were Portugeese built and had a Peugeot engine, absolutly horrible yoke to drive and hurt your eyes to look at, there was some garage in Cork importing them at the time.

If I'm not mistaken the ESB ran some of those yokes around early 90's. You can imagine how much better they looked in yellow;);)

I remember them, started as a French built yoke by Cournil but later UMM Transcat or Alter 2 was the usual versions seen. Apparently the back windows could blow out if driven at speed with the front windows open.

The 80s spawned a lot of strange 4x4s cashing in on a new market. Saw a French Auverland last year at Dartfield. Landmaster and Stonefield were other stillborn products from then. You cold even get Peugeot pick ups converted to 4wd.

Anyone one remember the original godawful Dacia Duster?

Well the TATA Safari and its pickup brother have to be up there with those dire offerings.

I felt sea sick driving the Safari

Pretty much same off road as a series Land Rover, there was one at an off road event I was at about 20 years ago. It went everywhere until a brake pipe got torn off!

Drove an UMM in portugal back in 1996. only good up to 50 km/hr. Would go anywhere but not great in the comfort stakes. Was fun to drive around locally though.

UMM were sold by B&D (long gone) in Cork, not a very big seller.
A few were supplied ESB & Cork Co.Co as far as I can remember.
