    Which Airport in London?
Have you exact dates 'cos prices can differ greatly between one day and the next.

Dublin to Luton can be got for 20 quid return using Ryanair.com.

    Are you a bachelor farmer?

Ryanair advertising flights from €9.99 at the moment, no guarantee you'll get them at that price.

Google dynamic pricing and you'll understand why.

I think Stansted express is nearly £30 return, i was sickened paying it anyway!! Gatwick not so bad, just take the regular train, think it's around £14 return.

OP, London can be very cheap with Ryanair, got a few €20 returns to Gatwick, but always flying at funny times, eg Mon/Tues or Saturday night. Weekend flights will generally be a good bit more expensive

With budget airlines, this makes no difference. If you buy a "return," what you really get are two individual one-way tickets. There is no discount for buying a return. So feel free to shop around, booking an outbound flight with one airline and a return with another.

If you're over 16, compos mentis and have managed to set up an account on boards, it's baffling how the process of finding and booking a flight should cause you any difficulty.

If you were an 82 year old bachelor farmer from deepest Cavan, it'd make some sense.

As you're bound to be travelling for some considerable time to come, jump in, google, play around with your dates and see what comes up.

    Just sayin' :D

Oh come on Badgermonkey, that is not fair. I would be the last person on earth to claim booking online is hard. But for someone inexperienced, it can be daunting. You have to know how to shop around, how to deselect all the silly extras, how to get the right type of virtual credit card and avoid CC fees... you have to remember to check in online, not to pay extra for a seat, to print your boarding pass... if you have never done it before, this can be scary.

For those of us who book flights all the time, €8 (or less) for a flight to London is a reality. Those booking online for the first time will probably find it hard to actually score such a fare. Hence, they come here and ask for advice. What could be wrong about that?

Remember, you started out a newb one day yourself. Perhaps you were one of the people who print all those confirmation e-mails and brings them along, "just in case"... You live. You learn. It all becomes second nature. But we all have to start somewhere.

Ryanair are always on cheap flights...just be careful about what airport you are supposed to go to, cos they only go to Luton and Stansted and it is quite a pretty penny to get into city centre after that, something like 30-40 quid I think.

Oh and don't forget about bring feck all in your baggage for ryanair.
    Happy Travels :)

Fair enough to a point. The process itself is an increasingly byzantine jumble that requires effective regulation to ensure carriers do not set out to profit from confusion.

First thing OP should do is input their preferred dates and hit search. Choosing to fly at a certain time on a certain day does have an enormous bearing on the fare paid and this may be a factor the OP is not yet familiar with, so my apologies for that.

With regard to the booking process itself read it carefully, check your spelling, read it carefully again and click confirm.

I find skyscanner.net pretty handy fir finding cheap flights to London. If your dates are flexible you can search the whole month and it'll give you the cheapest price for all airlines and airports. It even shows prices using different airlines/ airports for outbound/return.

As stated dont forget to add in costs to travel to and from the airport and any bags you may want to check in.
