    Hi,
Anyone else still have no clue who they are going to vote for? Personally I am still a little at sea. A FG/green coalition would seem the most sensible or a FG single government. This is just what I think but not convinced.
    The other parties:
FF failed++++, must go, only fools would vote for them now as they not only destroyed our economy they have attempted to destroy our health service and genuinely do not seem to be aware they have done this. A bit strong but I thing voteing for FF is like putting a convicted rapist in charge of a kindergarden.
Labour: Make love to the unions who have almost as much to answer to as FF. Policy that nobody will loose their house, does this mean I can roll up interest till I am 200 YOA or that I just do not bother paying. They have no credible way to do this.
SF: Clueless would see the country bankrupt within 2 years (at the most).
FG: My main concern is regarding their healthcare it is not explained thoroughly. Who will be private and who will be public? If no private what happens to private hospitals and what if someone wants to be private??
Greens: I truly belive have the most integrity. They are selling a difficult pill that we cannot only grow but must sustain. Thay also do attract the "weirdos" and may not have the depth in all areas (but do the main parties?)

Anyway you can see I have my own thoughts. I am NO expert and do not pretend to be. Would love to know other peoples 11th hour declaration

I'm sorry but not to start a fight but you say your no expert yet you claim only fools would vote FF .I love contradictions :pac:

I've somewhat the same feeling but more so for my secondary selections.I've somehwat of an idea but not really.

as permabear said if you want an fg/green coalition vote that way. The most likely result is still an fg/lab coalition, but i wouldn't rule out fg/greens/inds either

I mean "in my opinion" only fools...as I am no expert, but is anyone?. Just trying to see where peoples minds are at who have not decided yet. It really is very difficult. I aggree that I have probably talked myself into FG/Green candidates by writing this forum to be honest.

    I understand your predicament OP.

You just need to decide where your priorities lie at the moment. For me, for instance, this election will be about economic damage control more than anything else, and so I'm going to give my vote to FG. This is a party I have serious reservations about (for example, their gay marriage stance, their position on abortion and their defence policy), but I don't really see much choice here.

It sounds like you're in a similar boat, torn between the Greens and FG. IMO, what you should do is decide whether economic or social policy is more important to you right now, and vote based on that. No party's politics will ever line up with your own entirely, so a little compromise will be necessary, but such is life.

This is my first vote and really each politon seems the same as the next. And even though someone may be great on a local level they might be part of a party who's overall policies I don't agree with. Its all so confusing, I think its just going to be a case of eenie meenie miney mo when I get in there!

If your are happy with the current state of the country and the economy, vote FF and Greens.

If not, vote for someone other than the above.

    It's simple really.

You sound like you'd prefer greens as first preference and FG as second? Unless there are some independents you like?

You can still research online, voting is open until 10pm, you could read about the FG health plan and other party policies. (www.faircare.ie = FG health system).

As far as I know, the FG health plan involves dismissing the current failed system and put a whole new structure in place (FF & Labour want to pump more money into tinkering with the current system), which involves a funding per patient criteria. There isn't a blanker billion pumped in that goes on administration etc., but funding is based on patients cared for.

It's been speculated that there's a danger of more admissions to hospitals by doctors to keep up funding, but this will also be covered in part by the private sector and health insurance.

The idea is, by making the system partly private and partly public funded, that they eliminate the two tier public / private health system and they say the health system will be accessable to all.

It has been very successfull in Holland and is considerd a model for a highly functional health system with high standards, but the main criticisim has been regulating the health budget and whether or not caps need to be put on funding to prevent hospitals exploiting the "pay per patient" system.

Well I have quiet a few other sweeping generalisations I can use for both FF and anyone who thinks they should still be in power.

Instead of trying to rule out who you will not vote for (for whatever reason), why don't you write out a list of issues and how you would like to see them decided and see who most closely resembles your views.

It is important to look behind the spin too. Labour are doing badly because they are proposed as a high tax party. But for everyone earning less than 100k p.a. they propose no income tax increases, and they propose less steath taxes. Likewise, FG are tarred as going to cut social welfare and public sector pay dramatically, but in reality they are only going to cut these things so far as the EU and IMF require them to do.

Our course is pretty much set for the next 3-5 years as we will slowly decline and our national debt will increase. There is no getting around this unless some radical new discovery creates massive growth in Ireland (peak turf anybody?).

So the choices are really 3 different flavours of cola on the one hand, or the various alcoholic drinks that sound like fun but are more risky on the other.

The following issues are close to my heart(not in any particular order):

    1. Disability(this covers a huge array of issues for me).
    2. Public Sector
    3. Health Service
    4. Taxes.

So, going on that, who the **** should I vote for?

Is that why you have three and half thousand posts?

I think you should go with what you want. If you want the same and hope they can pull us out the other side go FF, if you want change and hopefully they can hit the whole situation from a different angle go FG.

I just hope people don't go SF, as was said before they'll have the entire country bankrupt in a year
